Art in Residence

The artist Chhay Saron is one of the artists to display his work at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap. Saron joined the Cambodian army but was discharged at the age of 25 years as a result of a landmine accident to which he lost a leg. Saron started to work n a Christian technical school for people with disabilities where art classes were taught. Surrounded by artisans, he became interested in carving. In 1988, he was asked to carve a sculpture of the Mother Mary and this became the first of many commissions on a Christian theme. The Artist in Residence programme is promoted by the Park Hyatt in order to engage the tourist community and give them a sense of place.

Helping Locally

No one understands a community better than those that live and work there, and as a member of the Cambodian community the Park Hyatt Siem Reap is aware of its role in local development. Its most recent contribution comes in the form of a 15,000 US dollar grant awarded to the Everything's Gonna Be OK (EGBOK) Mission, an organisation that encourages personal advancement and economic sustainability through hospitality training. This grant is one of the 26 awarded to non-profits nominated by Hyatt hotels through the HYatt Community Grants programme, and the first to be awarded in Southeast Asia.
