W Hotels' newest property, which opens in Macau on September 8, offers a perfect blend of local culture and stylish showmanship in every nook and corner
W Hotels’ signature playful style gets a Macanese touch at the new W Macau - Studio City, a hotel that’s been designed for those who want to see and be seen. Inspired by the city’s unique Chinese and Portuguese culture, the hotel offers its guests a luxury experience unlike any other along the Cotai Strip.
Macau was an important trade hub in the region for the East and West in the 15th and 16th centuries, and its rich maritime past has provided style references for all 557 rooms and suites in the property. A design showcasing the Macanese lorcha sailing boat takes pride of place at the signature minibars, known as W MixBar. The standard rooms feature specially designed mirrors and lighting fixtures that add a dramatic element to the space. The Spectacular Room, with views of both the city and the Cotai Strip’s glittering lights, is also a stand-out option.
The suites boast chic, colourful furniture and ceiling lights that resemble the beacon of the Guia Lighthouse, a local landmark and the first Western-style lighthouse to be built along the Chinese coast. Located on the top floors of the hotel, the 150 sqm Wow Suite houses a living room with an entertainment unit and a dining room fitted with a service kitchen, while the 258 sqm Extreme Wow Suite offers 270-degree views through floor-to-ceiling windows, a generous dining area, and a master bedroom with a luxurious round-shaped bed. All rooms come with a Bluetooth sound system and the W Hotels’ famous Whatever/Whenever 24-hour concierge service.
The dining outlets are also inspired by Macanese influence, such as the restaurant Hawker Hawker that offers both local specialities and international favourites. It also features a walk-in chiller, which transforms from a yogurt-and-fruit bar in the morning to a fresh seafood station in the evening.
Hidden within the Living Room lobby lounge is A Perfect Dose, the hotel’s speakeasy with a vertical plant wall of organic herbs for mixologists to pick for their cocktails.
Meanwhile, Diva, the restaurant on the top floor, offers contemporary Cantonese cuisine in an art deco-inspired setting, and the adjacent Blind Tiger bar serves up dark spirit-based cocktails and bar snacks.
Located within Blind Tiger is the first W Sound Suite in Greater China, a music studio with a state-of-the-art sound recording system that allows guests to compose and remix their own music during their stay.
With its effortless blend of local culture and stylish showmanship, the W Macau - Studio City is all set for the lights to go on and the show to start at its grand opening on September 8.
