The new Viking river cruise vessel will set sale as soon as September 2022

Viking has this week announced it will be welcoming a brand new riverliner into its fleet: the Viking Aton. Made specifically for navigating the River Nile, the new state-of-the-art river vessel is reimagining what a river cruise could look like thanks to its award-winning Scandinavian design.

Currently under construction, the luxury cruiseliner was inspired by the design of the Viking Longships and is expected to make its public debut as soon as September 2022. The new vessel will join the existing Nile River fleet sailing on Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Egypt remains a top destination for many of our guests who are inspired to discover the rich history and beauty of the region,” Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, said in a press release. “We will always maintain our commitment to creating meaningful experiences that are focused on the destination. The addition of Viking Aton is a reflection of our continued investment in Egypt; we look forward to introducing the country's cultural treasures to even more Viking guests in the future.”

The Viking Aton will have the capacity to host just 82 guests in 41 staterooms that have been designed to feature outdoor verandas with river views, spacious suites with two full-size rooms, a pool and sun deck with 360-degree views, and a terrace for al fresco dining and indoor/outdoor viewing along the Nile.

Throughout the 12-day itinerary, guests can expect to see some of the best of Egypt—from the Great Pyramids of Giza in Cairo to the Temples of Luxor. Guests will also have Privileged Access to the tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens and the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings among many other temples and along the way.
