Slated for opening by December 2026, Singapore’s cross-border neighbour Johor Bahru is set to receive a significant upgrade to its luxury hospitality offerings with the arrival of JW Marriott
Marriott International and YTL Hotels have announced a significant strategic move into Malaysia’s southern corridor, with the signing of the JW Marriott Hotel Johor Bahru. Following a strategic conversion of the former Thistle Johor Bahru, the JW Marriott Hotel Johor Bahru is expected to open by December 2026, marking a major elevation of the city’s luxury hospitality offerings.
The hotel’s location will ensure easy access for both regional and international guests. Situated at the crossroads of Jalan Sungai Chat and Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, the property is minutes from the CIQ checkpoint.
Crucially, its proximity to the upcoming Bukit Chagar Singapore - Johor Bahru Rapid Transit System (RTS) Station) and Senai International Airport will turn it into the most convenient luxury hub in the area. This prime location places key attractions—such as the bustling café culture of Jalan Wong Ah Fook, the retail haven of Mid Valley Southkey, and Legoland Malaysia—within a short 10 to 20-minute drive.
“Marriott is pleased to deepen our relationship with YTL Hotels through the signing of JW Marriott Hotel Johor Bahru,” said Rajeev Menon, President – Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International in a press statement. “This signing represents a strategic expansion of the brand in Malaysia, reinforcing our commitment to bringing transformative luxury experiences to destinations of growing business and leisure demand.”
