Inspired by the three realms of Traibhumikatha, InterContinental Phuket Resort is heaven on the Andaman

For the discerning traveller, Phuket has always been a tale of two islands: the vibrant, sun-drenched coast and the mystical, emerald-shrouded peaks. At the InterContinental Phuket Resort, these two worlds do not just meet; they harmonise in a feat of architectural storytelling that has earned the property a rare two Michelin Keys. Located on the powdery white sands of Kamala Beach—Phuket’s 'Millionaire’s Mile'—this is more than a resort; it is a contemporary pilgrimage into the heart of Thai heritage.

A Design Inspired by the Three Realms of Heaven, Earth and Ocean

The resort’s narrative is rooted in the Traibhumikata, an ancient Thai text depicting the three realms of the universe. The property is split into two wings connected by a subterranean gallery of local art.

The crowning jewel is the Sawan Pavilion, representing the 'Heavenly Realm.' Standing as a shimmering white beacon against the jungle, it features multi-tiered spires and lotus ponds has mytical fish sculptures that related to design story of heaven created by Thai National Artist, Professor Prayad Pongdam. To walk its halls is to experience a literal 'ascension' into luxury and more like a celestial temple.

The Two Worlds of Kamala

The resort is a masterclass in contrast, divided by an 'Art Passage' into two distinct experiences. The Beach Wing (The Underwater World) is the heart of the Club InterContinental experience. These rooms embrace 'Coastal Glamour' with floor-to-ceiling glass and private balconies positioned for Phuket’s legendary sunsets. The Premium Club Lounge Access Ocean View offers 46 square meters of refined luxury just steps from the surf. While the Mountain Wing (The Heaven and Human World) is nestled against the emerald hillside, offering deep, jungle-clad seclusion. The Classic Rooms and Lagoon Villa Pool Access Club Lounge Access are quieter and more grounded—ideal for those seeking a luxurious hideaway feel.

Private Sanctuaries: The Villas

For those who view privacy as the ultimate luxury, the Private Pool Club Lounge Access Villas are the property’s pinnacle. Available in one, two, or three-bedroom configurations, these duplex sanctuaries elevate the holiday from a stay to a restoration. The Three-Bedroom Villa Private Pool Club Lounge Access is a true architectural feat, spanning 360 square metres with private dining sala and a sprawling 50-square-metre pool.

Regardless of the Villa category, the attention to detail is impeccable: opulent bathrooms feature oversized freestanding tubs and premium Byredo amenities. Guests in these categories also enjoy the full weight of Club InterContinental privileges, including a dedicated butler, a private infinity pool, and the daily ritual of sunset cocktails, canapés and daily afternoon tea.

Gastronomy with a Conscience

The resort has rapidly become Phuket’s most exciting culinary destination, boasting eight themed outlets including Tatler Best Restaurant award, hom restaurant that prioritises 'sustainable gastronomy.' Leading the charge is hom, a fermentation-forward restaurant in the Sawan Pavilion where Chef Marcelo Baruch transforms local ingredients into a cerebral 10-moment tasting menu. For those seeking soul-stirring Thai flavours, the award-winning Jaras offers a progressive Southern Thai cuisine through zero-waste practices. And Pine Beach Bar & Tengoku, with options range from sun-drenched beachside cocktails to theatrical Osaka-style teppanyaki, is also a spot not to miss. Meanwhile, the newly opened Sipping Tiger Bar—an elevated cocktail den at InterContinental Phuket Resort—shakes up zero-waste creations using garden-fresh botanicals grown in its own botanical garden, where rare spirits and a touch of wild character come together in an intimate, late-night ritual of flavour.

Wellness and the Art of Sati

At Sati Spa—named after the Sanskrit word for 'mindfulness'—wellness is approached as a holistic practice. Rooted in ancient Vedic philosophies and enriched with locally sourced herbs, each treatment is designed to restore balance between body and mind. This sense of conscious living extends beyond the spa, shaping the resort's wider philosophy. From its LEED Gold-certified design to initiatives like the island's first food waste composter and a 'License to Clean' catamaran that helps preserve the surrounding bay, the resort reflects a thoughtful commitment to sustainability under its 'Journey to Tomorrow' ethos.

The InterContinental Phuket Resort succeeds in crafting a sense of place that feels both timeless and evocative. With five swimming pools, a 78-foot luxury yacht, and intuitive butler service, it delivers the height of international hospitality. Yet, in its quietest corners, it offers something rarer: a piece of heaven and earth.
