A striking blend of contemporary elegance and Cantonese heritage, this lofty retreat redefines urban luxury in Guangzhou
Guangzhou, the pulsating heart of southern China, is a city of juxtapositions: centuries-old temples nestled between gleaming skyscrapers and bustling dim sum teahouses set against the backdrop of a futuristic skyline.
Rising high above this ever-evolving metropolis, the Rosewood Guangzhou is an exercise in quiet grandeur, perched atop one of the tallest buildings in the world.
Here, a refined, almost meditative luxury unfolds—a place where design, gastronomy and hospitality converge to offer an experience that is both profoundly local and strikingly cosmopolitan.

First impressions

Above The hotel boasts the world’s fastest elevator, whisking guests through the property at 21 metres per second
The ascent to the Rosewood Guangzhou is as much a statement of intent as it is a journey in itself. Guests are whisked from the city’s hum below to the sky-high lobby on the 95th floor via one of the world’s fastest elevators, an exhilarating prelude to the splendour that awaits. Once inside, the space is a masterpiece of restraint—soaring ceilings, sleek marble and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the sprawling urban expanse below. Designed by Toronto-based firm Yabu Pushelberg, the interiors feel at once intimate and expansive, blending contemporary aesthetics with nods to traditional Chinese artistry.
The lobby’s focal point is not an ostentatious chandelier or an imposing reception desk, but the view—Guangzhou, in all its neon-lit energy, stretching out toward the horizon. There is an immediate sense of elevation, both literal and metaphorical, as if you’ve stepped into a world where time slows and the city becomes a tableau rather than a whirlwind.

Above The view from the Deluxe Riverview room
With 251 rooms and suites, including 20 suites, four duplex suites and ultra-luxury residences for extended stays, Rosewood Guangzhou offers accommodation that feels deeply personal despite its scale.
My Riverview room was an elegant cocoon of warm woods, plush textiles and subtle Cantonese motifs—an understated but deeply considered interpretation of modern luxury. Floor-to-ceiling windows brought the city to my bedside, offering a painterly view of the Pearl River weaving through the city’s glittering skyscrapers. The bathroom, clad in gleaming marble, feels like a sanctuary in the sky, with a deep soaking tub positioned to take in the urban panorama. Thoughtful details—a curated tea selection, hand-crafted ceramics and the softest linens imaginable—elevated the experience from mere hospitality to something altogether more immersive.
Wine and dine
Dining at Rosewood Guangzhou is an experience that unfolds across seven distinct venues, each offering a different facet of the city’s rich culinary tapestry.
At Lingnan House, traditional Cantonese cuisine is given a contemporary flourish, with impeccably crafted dim sum and delicate seafood dishes that pay homage to Guangdong’s culinary heritage. Standouts from the menu include the prawn and Sichuan peppercorn angel hair—a bold, contemporary take on Cantonese noodles—and a supremely tender Zigong-style beef tripe that nods to Sichuanese spice without overpowering. Set against a backdrop of vintage Lingnan design with private garden villas and chandeliers, this is a dining experience that pays homage to Guangdong’s heritage while confidently stepping into the present.
In contrast, Patina European Brasserie & Terrace channels the elegance of a Parisian bistro, while Black Iron focuses on Japanese delicacies such as sukiyaki, sashimi and teppanyaki. For those in search of something more relaxed, Brick Lane offers a London-inspired café experience, complete with artisanal pastries and expertly brewed coffee. Meanwhile, The Butterfly Room is a refined setting for an afternoon tea that rivals the city’s finest.

Above Head up to Too High for live music and creative cocktails
Up on the 107th floor is Too High, the hotel’s impossibly chic sky bar. Here, expertly crafted cocktails—infused with local botanicals and rare spirits—are served against a breathtaking backdrop of Guangzhou’s neon glow. It is a place that captures the very essence of the hotel: sophisticated, striking and utterly transportive.
Bells and whistles
A stay at Rosewood Guangzhou is as much about rejuvenation as it is about indulgence. The Asaya Active wellness complex is an urban sanctuary spread across two levels, offering a holistic approach to well-being that blends traditional Chinese healing practices with cutting-edge therapies. The indoor infinity pool, with its seamless views of the city, is the kind of place where time seems to dissolve, while the fitness centre is well-equipped with classes that span dance, pilates, yoga, barre and more.
The spa’s signature treatments, including the 60-minute de-stress massage, make use of natural botanicals and time-honoured techniques, offering the chance to unwind completely. Here, wellness does not feel like an afterthought. Instead, it is an integral part of the experience, woven seamlessly into the fabric of the hotel.
