Rockwell refines coastal living in Cebu with Aruga Resort and Residences – Mactan’s second tower designed for privacy and everyday ease
In an archipelago defined by sea and greenery, Cebu has long stood as the queen city of the south, offering a distinct perspective from Manila. Located on the other bustling side of the country, the island presents a different view of the Philippines, one shaped by its own culture, rhythm and way of life. For those seeking an address that balances energy with ease, Cebu remains the destination of choice. Committed to delivering exceptional lifestyle experiences, Rockwell Land introduced Aruga Resort and Residences – Mactan, its first beachfront residence in Punta Engaño, set along a stunning 270-metre private shoreline.

While the first tower is already welcoming its first residents, the introduction of the second tower marks an evolution of the rising coastal community. Designed to heighten one’s connection to the sea, the second tower reflects a more deliberate approach to everyday living, where each space is shaped as much by feeling as it is by form.
Central to this vision is orientation. “The decision to have every unit in the second tower face the sea was made to ensure every resident has the best possible view,” notes Ed Gallego, principal architect of Gallego Architects. “We committed entirely to the horizon facing the Hilutungan Channel.” From gentle morning light to uninterrupted island views, the horizon becomes a defining element of daily living. Architectural features such as deep balconies, wide openings and expansive windows draw in natural light and breeze, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

Equally significant is the second tower’s low-density design. Through a single-loaded corridor layout, residences are placed on only one side of each floor. This results in fewer units, wider living spaces and corridors that are open to light and air. The effect is immediate; spaces feel quieter, more private and distinctly more residential.
The design also marks a shift from resort-style accommodation to everyday living. Open-plan layouts allow for flexibility, while integrated indoor and outdoor spaces support a lifestyle that is both relaxed and practical. This is complemented by a curated mix of amenities—from access to a private beachfront and sea-facing pools to quieter shared spaces such as lounges and wellness facilities.

True to Rockwell’s refined approach, design extends well beyond what is seen. A network of carefully considered systems operates quietly in the background, ensuring that daily life is not only elevated but effortlessly lived. From efficient waste management to water desalination and robust infrastructure, these unseen elements deliver a sense of ease, reliability and continuity.
Ultimately, the second tower is conceived with longevity in mind. “Materials and finishes were chosen to endure the seaside environment while staying easy to care for,” Gallego points out. “Layouts are designed with flexibility in mind so spaces can adapt as living patterns change.” At Aruga Mactan, coastal living is no longer an escape. It becomes part of the everyday, shaped by design that is both intentional and enduring.
