Craving for an adrenaline rush? Here’s a list of experiences you must try before you die
The world is filled with natural and manmade wonders just waiting to be explored. Arguably the best way to experience these attractions is by fully immersing in activities that unleash the inner daredevil in you. Here are some of our recommended spots around the world for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure:
Hot air balloon ride: Bagan, Myanmar
As the sun rises over this ancient city, accompanied with thick clouds of mist hovering over countless spires, Bagan is unveiled in its full glory. While exploring on foot is by no means a lesser experience, floating above Bagan affords you an unbeatable view of the over 2,000 temples scattered across the plain, plus the surrounding body of water and mountains. Restorations are still underway for some of the temples that have been destroyed by the earthquake in 2016, but this does not take anything away from the overall experience.
Paragliding: Ölüdeniz, Turkey
Situated in the area of Turkey called the “Turquoise Coast,” Ölüdeniz is a coastal village noted for the surreal blue view of the Aegean Sea. Paragliding off of the Babadag Mountain (at 1960m above sea level) takes you above the stretch of white sand beach and the famous lagoon. Savour the fresh air and admire the view below for about 25 to 45 minutes depending on changing conditions, and then you will land at a point close to the beach. The best thing about this place is that the weather is usually stable throughout the year, so you can go anytime.
Skydiving: Palm Jumeirah, Dubai
There’s no doubt that the Palm Jumeirah is a marvel, with its glimmering skyscrapers and manmade islands situated amidst harsh desert. Imagine hurtling towards this gorgeous view from around 13,000 feet above ground at 193 kph.
Bungee jumping: Macau Tower
The AJ Hackett Macau Tower is the highest point in the world from which you can bungee jump. You jump off at 764 feet, free-falling towards the earth before slowing down 30 metres from the ground and rebounding back up. Bungee jumping here is available in daytime and nighttime.
Skiing: Zermatt, Switzerland
The pyramid shaped Matterhorn Mountain stands at over 14,000 above sea level, where the highest ski resort in Europe can be found. Pistes here are groomed for every skill level, so beginners won’t have to be intimidated. At the foot of the mountain, shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants dot the town, so you won’t be going hungry.
Spelunking: Waitomo Caves, New Zealand
The magical glowing caves of Waitomo are the perfect backdrop for a caving adventure. Despite its grim name, the “Black Abyss” is a programme that’s fit for beginners. From abseiling, black water rafting, to climbing, the Black Abyss will have you pumped for at least five hours.
Fluorescent diving: Bonaire, the Caribbean
If you’ve had your fill of regular scuba diving, maybe it’s time to give fluorescent diving a try. At the Bonaire Marine Park, the underwater world comes to life in psychedelic colours as they are lit up using UV lights and mask filters. Get ready to see these creatures in a different light.
