Sorry, tourists, but a black screen now covers the best place to snap a photo of Mt. Fuji. Located in the town of Fujikawaguchiko outside a Lawson convenience store, the sidewalk spot attracted visitors by the hundreds eager to view the iconic Japanese mountain. While the tourism was great, many foreigners blocked the narrow sidewalk and would often crowd busy roads—to the chagrin of locals. The smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Shōji remains largely untouched—save for a few hotels and amenities. Suited for the adventurous traveller, you have plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. The best part is the clear view of Mt Fuji with a chance of a reflected image on the lake’s surface—if the conditions are right.
Gotemba
