Multiple wins at the Tokyo Olympics
During the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, Haughey achieved multiple wins, taking home silver medals in both the women’s 200-metre freestyle and 100-metre freestyle events.
Winning the Junior World Championships in 2013

Haughey had been making ripples in the swimming world as early as 2013. In an interview with Tatler in 2021 she describes winning the Junior World Championships in the 100m freestyle in 2013 as her proudest moment. “I surprised myself and the swimming world because I was a nobody, from a small swimming [region], I took away the gold medal and started to make a name for myself. That swim gave me a lot more confidence in my swimming career moving forward,” she said.
First swimming gold for Hong Kong in the Asian Games
In the 2022 Asian Games, Haughey won Hong Kong’s first swimming gold medal, cementing her place in history as a trailblazer in the sport. But this success didn’t come overnight, it came through years of perseverance. In an interview with Tatler, our June 2022 cover star said, “My main job is being a swimmer. Nothing can ever prepare you for fame or popularity. I was just trying to be a good swimmer. I never signed up for the followers, the fame, everything that came with it.”
Getting gold at Fina World Swimming Championships in Dubai

At the 2021 Fina World Swimming Championships in Dubai, where she again made a splash, not only winning gold but also setting a world record in the 200m in the process—in what can only be called a grand finale to an already stratospheric year.
Multiple wins at the World Aquatics Championships
At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Haughey won a silver medal in the 100-metre freestyle event, becoming the first Hong Kong swimmer to finish on the podium at the World Aquatics Championships.
In 2024, Haughey continued to make waves in the swimming world. She earned the bronze in the 100-metre breaststroke and her first world long-course gold medal in the 200-metre freestyle event at the World Aquatics Championships.
