During the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nesthy Petecio gives the Philippines its fourth medal, after ranking third in the women’s boxing 57kg division

Adding a second Olympic medal to her arsenal, female boxer Nesthy Petecio earned a bronze medal in the women’s boxing 57kg division after a split decision loss. She competed in the semifinals against Julia Szeremeta of Türkiye, with a close set of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29 in Szeremeta’s favour.

During the match, Petecio won the opener on the scorecards. But Szeremeta took her by surprise with her right hooks, which won her four out of the five scorecards against Petecio. While Petecio gathered her energy into a powerful last two rounds, the judges still scored Szeremeta higher.
