As an entertainer, entrepreneur and so much more, RJ Ledesma shows us that you can specialise in anything and everything

Referred to as a man of many hats, Rene ‘RJ’ Aleta Ledesma, Jr has seemingly done it all. He tapped into his creative side by authoring six books—of which three were National Book Awards finalists. He’s maintained friendships in the diplomatic circle as the Honorary Vice Consul of Monaco to the Philippines. He’s even made waves in the corporate world as a senior assistant brand manager at Procter and Gamble (P&G). In celebration of his golden birthday, Tatler sits down with Ledesma as he recounts his illustrious career in different industries.

Ledesma already had a natural affinity for public speaking from a young age. His mother would send him to elocution contests, he became a child ambassador for a local orange soda brand, and he debated abroad once he got to college. “My mom really shaped my hosting and performance abilities,” quipped Ledesma. Now, he’s one of the most recognisable events and wedding hosts—being the only three-time Best Male Host Awardee from the Aliw Awards.

On the other hand, his entrepreneurial know-how comes from his father. “He was an entrepreneur himself, so he would involve me in the family business when I was a kid, and he encouraged me to do my own thing,” Ledesma tells Tatler. So far, he has founded several businesses, such as the popular weekend food market Mercato Centrale Philippines, franchise management company Easy Franchise and business consultancy Enter PH, which specialises in investor relations, among others.

While his parents taught him lessons from two different worlds, Ledesma is grateful to have learned these skills at an early age. “The common denominator between them—which I think is the most important for me—is my spiritual and religious formation.” Also a member of multiple faith organisations like Couples for Christ and Lay Ministers of San Antonio, he mirrored his parents’ devotion and wishes to pass it on to his children.

Ever curious about new opportunities, Ledesma has explored every facet of building a career. Whether he’s out and about adding a touch of flair to people’s special events or writing thought-provoking narratives, he has proven to be a jack of all trades, a master of many. His advice for those wishing to do the same? Stay eager and take failure in stride. “Always approach life with curiosity. Find out what value you can add to any situation and what skillset you can develop. I also believe that it’s important to have a healthy sense of humour… It helps you stay grounded and humble. In whatever you do, there’s always going to be a point where you’ll fail. Failure is a mindset. It’s an opportunity or steppingstone towards your continuous success,” shares Ledesma.

With a career spanning multiple decades, Ledesma is excited for the years to come. He is not just focusing on the business side of things—he looks forward to spending time with his wife, Vanessa Pastor-Ledesma, raising his kids, and becoming the best version of himself. “I can’t wait to celebrate next year for my wife’s golden year and to see my kids grow up. My eldest is sixteen, and my youngest is eight, so I have a lot of growing to do with them,” he shares.
