The Queen of England visited Singapore in 1972, 1989 and 2006

The United Kingdom (UK) is abuzz this weekend with parties, parades and public holidays as the country celebrates Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, which is off to a roaring start. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrates her record-breaking 70 years on the throne and millions are currently participating in celebrations that started on June 2.

The celebrations also saw members of the royal family such as Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and more. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also seen in the UK to celebrate the occasion.

“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth,” the Queen said in a statement.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.”

As we celebrate alongside the UK, Tatler takes a look back at the three times the reigning monarch has visited our shores on official state visits. The Queen, who hasn’t visited Singapore in recent years, visited the island in 1972, 1989 and 2006 where she toured HDB buildings, met with our local politicians and citizens and more.
