Undoubtedly one of the country’s favourite holidays, Christmas has a special place in our hearts. There’s a lot to love, from the music, food and intimate gatherings with those we cherish most. Greenbelt welcomed this special season with a tree lighting ceremony that inspired warmth and cheer into guests. Collectively titled “A Season to Remember,” it invites us all to take things slowly and appreciate what the season has to offer—not alone, but with friends, family and each other.

Held on November 13 at the Greenbelt 5 Fashion Walk and Greenbelt 3’s Sunken Garden, the ceremony saw the lighting of the Christmas Tree, wrapped in a long, delicate ribbon and adorned with red and gold ornaments that glittered underneath the soft glow of lights. At the very top sat the traditional Star of Bethlehem, itself emblematic of this anticipated and beloved day. The entirety of Greenbelt itself was filled with lights, activities and festivities to mark the occasion.

The Manila Philharmonic Orchestra set the tone for the evening with a medley of classic Christmas songs, bringing us back to simpler times and reminding us of our fondest memories, while Steps Dance Studio also conducted their own elegant performance. Mid-performance, the Christmas tree was illuminated to full hearts and smiles. As mothers and fathers held their gleeful children in their arms, as loved ones stood a little bit closer and as passersby were drawn to the warmth, this experience was one shared between them all. Some of the country’s brightest performers, namely Nyoy Volante, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Kayla Rivera and Christian Bautista, sang timeless carols and Christmas songs to serenade guests for the evening.

The meaning of Christmas can differ to each of us. But as the day quietly and steadily approaches, and with our calendars one turn away, it is an opportunity for us to pause, reflect and take in the moment. Greenbelt’s tree lighting ceremony was one such invitation: to fill rooms with laughter, our hearts with love, and the air with song, dance and spirit.
