Multi-awarded Citi Philippines establishes itself as one of the country’s leading financial institutions through community engagements and commitment to integrating the latest technologies

Financial institutions powerfully shape the future, always remaining constant and unwavering in this role, regardless of the economic climate. Such as how Citi Philippines has always forged ahead, seeking to improve the well-being of the communities and individuals it touches through innovation, inspiration and upliftment. The bank’s deep roots in the Philippines date back to July 1902, when the International Banking Corporation established a branch in Manila.

Today, with over 6,000 employees, Citi maintains a substantial and impactful presence in the country. 2025 was a landmark year for the bank. The Asset recognised it as the best bank for sustainable finance, the best commercial bank, and the best sustainability bond issuer. Meanwhile, at the FinanceAsia Awards, the institution earned further accolades as the best corporate bank, the best bank for public sector clients, and the best correspondent bank.

“These awards recognise the efforts of our services, markets and banking businesses and the value of our global network,” Citi Philippines CEO and Banking Head Paul Favila says. “A significant pillar of Citi’s strength is our expansive international network, with physical presence in over 90 markets and serving clients in more than 180 countries and jurisdictions. Citi possesses extensive experience and reach in adapting to diverse market conditions.” In 2024 alone, it assisted the country and the Asian Development Bank in raising nearly US$20 billion through debt capital markets while facilitating PHP 220 billion of investments into local government debt markets.

This broad reach could not be possible without the robust infrastructure Citi has built. It excels in international environments with a diverse business portfolio and a resilient balance sheet. It accomplishes this while navigating rough, uncertain waters—be it geopolitical challenges, supply chain disruptions, and everything in between—to achieve its long term goals.

Citi’s success is mainly built on its proactivity—a quality that has led it to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into many of its services, deployed not only in the Philippines but also used by more than 180,000 colleagues in 83 jurisdictions. These internal tools, such as Citi Stylus, Citi Assist and Citi Squad, make processes smoother for its employees and more convenient for clients.

Yet, Citi is also keenly aware of its ability to support the sectors that need it most. Through various award-winning community programs, such as Citi's Global Community Day and the Citi Foundation's Global Innovation Challenge, the firm addresses critical employment, environmental and other social issues. “Citi is dedicated to fostering economic opportunities and addressing social challenges through its business capabilities, expertise and volunteer efforts, including the philanthropic work of the Citi Foundation,” Favila affirms.

Citi holds its head high as its march of progress continues. Every move is made with intent, and its results are seen not just through the finances it handles, but in how it serves society any and every way it can.
