In celebration of International Women’s Day, we spotlight admirable efforts from Porsche, as a partner of United Women Singapore to support and empower bright young women with big dreams
As a company with undeniable drive and a leading-edge spirit, Porsche is no stranger to the power of manifesting big dreams. To inspire and empower others along the way, the leading German sports car manufacturer is setting an example through its ongoing long-term partnership with United Women Singapore to advance gender equality.
“At Porsche, we started as dreamers, creating the sports car we could not find. As we grew, we faced one challenge to another, and emerged stronger. We know what it feels like to stand against the odds while remaining true to our passion; now, we want others to be able to do the same,” said Hannes Ruoff, chief executive officer of Porsche Asia Pacific.
The partnership was launched in 2021 as part of the brand’s 20th anniversary and Porsche Asia Pacific has since been supporting the non-profit organisation’s Girls2Pioneers programme. In particular, it focuses on girls aged 10 to 21, with a focus on students from underserved communities, and aims to encourage them to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects in their higher education/careers to pave the way for a more gender equal society.
“We acknowledge that there are many out there who need help to fulfil their dreams. Together with United Women Singapore, we want to support this cause,” Ruoff added.
In 2022 and 2023, the company also committed to a EUR100,000 (S$143,000) bursary fund with UWS for a total of 40 female students in the programme. The funds are being used to defray living expenses so as to allow these students to focus on their academic studies with fewer worries.
In addition, to empower students on their career paths, Porsche Asia Pacific is a participant in UWS’ STEM mentorship programme. Mentors will not only generously offer tips and share their personal career experiences, the students will get the opportunity to find out from their mentors about what it takes to secure a job at Porsche. Additionally, there are also internship positions available to interested young women. These range from short holiday attachments for primary and secondary school students to more formal work internships for tertiary students.
The goal is to inspire the next generation of women to pursue STEM careers—especially in typically male-dominated industries. To round off the range of initiatives, the partnership also features quarterly engagements and fundraising activities for UWS.

Georgette Tan, president of United Women Singapore, says, “UWS focuses on building a pipeline of women leaders and influencers in Singapore and the support of key stakeholders, including corporate partners, is critical in making this dream a happy reality. Porsche’s ambition to realise dreams aligns with our values and we are delighted that Porsche Asia Pacific has decided to make this ambition tangible by supporting and advancing female students in Singapore."
This March, to celebrate International Women’s Day, Porsche and Tatler Singapore are teaming up to organise a panel discussion,“Dare to Dream, Dare to Lead: Inspiring Change and Overcoming Differences”, featuring an inspiring group of female trailblazers spanning technology to sustainability, who will share their personal stories and professional insights to empower the next generation of bright young females.
During the session, the panellists will discuss the characteristics that make a great leader, share their experiences about the courage and grit needed to reach the top and reflect on what it takes to lead in an authentic way amid the challenges of the modern world.
Now, that will certainly offer plenty of food for thought to fuel the dreamers as they continue to pursue their ambitions and achieve their fullest potential.
