Cover Since its launch in 2019, the manufacturing process of the Porsche Taycan has been CO2-neutral

From all-electric cars to charging networks, the sports car company is trailblazing a path in the world of motoring by placing sustainability as a top priority

As the world races to find solutions to global warming and climate change, Porsche aims to tackle modern sustainability challenges it faces as an automobile manufacturer. With a clear focus on electromobility and reducing carbon emissions, the leading sports car company is serious about fostering sustainability by creating innovative solutions and setting ambitious targets.

“We are forging ahead with our strategy of modern, sporty luxury. And setting the standards in the process. Porsche combines inspiring products with very personal experiences. With a brand that takes seriously its responsibility for the world in which we live. A brand that unites exclusivity, performance and sustainability,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board at the Annual Press Conference in 2023.

The goal is working towards becoming net carbon neutral across the value chain of its vehicles in 2030 – and to get there, Porsche is taking a holistic approach. From net carbon neutral production, to expanded charging infrastructures in our region and research into eFuels, Porsche is showing an unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Electrified vehicles

Representing the modern (and electrified) soul of Porsche, the Taycan is the company’s first all-electric sports car. The four door sports saloon effortlessly blends classic Porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability white incorporating state-of-the art production methods that strive to elevate the standards of sustainability. Since its launch in 2019, the car’s manufacturing process has been net carbon neutral. It is also the first Porsche to offer an optional leather-free interior by using materials made from recycled products and renewable raw materials for a truly guilt-free drive.

Ramping up the intensity of its ambitious electrification strategy, Porsche is set to expand the range of electromobility options with the roll-out of the all-electric variant of the Porsche Macan SUV in 2024, the all-electric 718 in the middle of the decade, followed by the all-electric Cayenne.

Continuing this upward trajectory, the brand will further broaden its product portfolio with a new vehicle concept—a large-sized all-electric SUV positioned above the Cayenne.

High performance charging network

Thanks to Porsche, going on long distance drives with electric vehicles will soon be an effortless cruise. In partnership with Shell, Porsche Asia Pacific is establishing a network of 180kW and 360kW High Performance Charges spanning 2,000km across Singapore, Malaysia’s North-South highway and into Thailand.

In Singapore, Porsche and SP Group have also announced an initiative to further expand its Destination Charging network with strategic locations at Gardens by the Bay, South Beach and Sembawang Country Club. These lifestyle destinations offer car owners easier access to seamless charging for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles, augmenting Porsche’s commitment to building a strong and convenient infrastructure for its customers. Plus, Porsche customers will also enjoy perks such as complimentary charging on this network.

To complement its e-mobility programmes, Porsche is committed to investing in eFuels as a supplement to the company’s sustainable strategy. eFuels are synthetic fuels that allow combustion engines to be operated in a potentially nearly carbon-neutral manner, hence providing owners of such vehicles with the option to significantly reduce their carbon footprint. The company recently launched an eFuels pilot plant in Chile and plans to eventually scale production capacity to 550 million litres to be distributed around the world, just like traditional fuels.

Minimal impact touchpoints

At the same time, Porsche takes a holistic approach when incorporating conscious principles into its entire customer journey—including its retail facilities.

Porsche launched its first LEED Gold facility in the region with Porsche Centre Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City, and its Porsche NOW pop-up at Guoco Tower in Singapore is located within a Green Mark and LEED Platinum certified building. The space, which showcases a periodically changing Porsche car model, also features intentionally unfinished flooring and ceilings for a minimalist, industrial look.

The brand also intentionally collaborates with like-minded partners to further underscore its support towards sustainable practices.

Together with local workshop and creative studio, Fin Crafted Goods, Porsche recently unveiled a limited four-piece collection in March 2023, featuring artistically upcycled to carry-all pieces.

And for a literal taste of sustainability—through a gourmet dining experience, that is, Porsche has partnered with private members club Mandala Club to present a five week residency in Singapore by Japanese chef Yoshihiro Narisawa. The acclaimed chef, who helms a two-Michelin starred restaurant in Tokyo, is renowned for his genre of Innovative Satoyama cuisine that aims to nourish both the body and the spirit to promote personal wellbeing and a sustainable environment. With conscious gastronomy like this, going green has never been this decadent.

To experience the sustainable future of electric mobility and to get up close and personal with the Porsche Taycan, schedule an appointment at the Porsche Now pop-up at #01-07 Guoco Tower now.
