The Mercedes-EQ range by Mercedes-Benz is fuelling the evolution of fully battery-powered electric vehicles by fusing state-of-the-art style, substance and sustainability

With the announcement of their Green Plan 2030, the Singapore government has rolled out a comprehensive road map that includes an “Energy Reset”, a vision of having all newly-registered cars to be cleaner-energy (electrified) models by 2030. And to support this plan there will be at least 60,000 charging points available nationwide by the end of this decade.

Even before the 2030 cut-off date, Mercedes-Benz is planning to be fully prepared for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, When Mercedes-Benz launched their first all electric EQC, they made a promise to release a slew of new electric vehicles by 2022. By the year’s end you will notice several new members of the Mercedes-EQ range on our roads.

Mercedes-EQ is their range of fully battery-powered electric vehicles. Rather than have a separate fully electric mode range alongside their traditional combustion engine models, Mercedes-Benz has decided to adopt the strategy of naming or manufacturing their Mercedes-EQ models under their established lineage, namely the A, B, C, E and S-Class models. They have even electrified the V-Class.

Their all-star model line-up for the Singapore market comprises of a Compact SUV called the EQA, a 7-seater SUV called the EQB, a mid-size SUV, the EQC and a mid-size premium saloon, the new EQE. There is also a newly launched 7-seater luxury MPV carrying the name EQV and at the very pinnacle we find the EQS, the electric version of their venerable S-Class limousine.

The “baby” of the range, the EQA is the EV equivalent of their GLA compact SUV. The EQA 250 has a 140kW (190hp) asynchronous motor powering the front axle. Being the most affordable of the EQ Series it will be available in three levels of trim—Progressive, Electric Art and AMG Line to appeal to the broadest segment of the market.

The next level up we find the EQB that boasts a 7-seater configuration, appealing to those with a larger or extended family. It is closely related to the GLB SUV model range. The model line up includes the EQB 250 with 140kW (190hp) and the all-wheel drive EQB 350 4MATIC with AMG Line with 215kW (292hp). The EQB offers surprising accommodation for up to seven and even with a modest 140kW it still gets around with surprising verve.

The earliest Mercedes-EQ model released was the EQC in 2021. This model gave us the first inkling of what we should expect from Mercedes- EQ range. The EQC 400 4MATIC has dual motors and all-wheel drive to harness an impressive power output of 300kW (408hp). It was the first to use the Sensual Purity design which successfully melds aerodynamics with sensual styling and acoustic requirements while based on the GLC platform. It was also the first to combine the power and refinement of the electric drive with the traditional strengths of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz’s mid-sized premium EV saloon, the EQE 350+ follows the market position of the ever popular E-Class saloon. It is an elegant design featuring a single bow design that spans the entire length of the vehicle. It is the definitive business saloon that finely balances technical innovation with modern aesthetics. Even with 215kW (288hp) it still boasts an incredible 669 km (WLTP) of range.

The range topping EQS is available as the EQS 450+ with a power rating of 245kW (333hp). For those who want even more power, there is also the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ with 484kW (658hp). The EQS 450+ has an impressive range of up to 770km while the more powerful Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will reach up to 571km on a full charge.

The EQS 450+ looks the most futuristic of the Mercedes-EQ range and is certainly befitting the flagship model. Even with 245kW it is quick but in a genteel fashion. It has a confident, regal quality as it serenely wafts away and seems to glide over the road imperfections as if on a silent magic carpet.

All models are fitted with Mercedes Me Connect, an all-in-one suite of multimedia infotainment that takes personalised driving to a new level with intuitive media and navigation features. No matter what road you take, this will keep you updated with data like the battery percentage or remaining range, and you'll receive notifications when the vehicle has reached your desired state of charge, with the ability to activate air-conditioning remotely prior to a journey via the pre-entry climate control system.

One great concern of EV ownership is battery range and charging capability. To allay this concern, all EQ Series have excellent range and come fitted with an AC/DC charging inlet to facilitate convenient charging solutions whether at home or on the road. Most owners will install a home charging station to keep their car’s battery topped up at one’s convenience but if one is in the city and should quick charging be required, there are fast-charging stations that recharges the battery to 80% capacity in the time it takes for a coffee break!

And thanks to an ingenious charging strategy, Mercedes-EQ models has a driving range that helps you go further. Energy recuperation capabilities makes it possible to recover electrical energy that is then fed back into the high-voltage battery and used again for power transmission. Choose from one of four modes of recuperation, via paddle-shifters on the steering wheel, from "D+" (gliding) to "D- -" (strong recuperation).

For even more peace of mind, the Mercedes-EQ range will come with a hassle-free ownership experience thanks to a carefully curated suite of Aftersales services and Manufacturer’s warranty:

·       Three-year / 100,000km vehicle warranty (whichever comes first)

·       Up to 10-year / 250,000km high-voltage battery warranty (whichever comes first)

·       10-year servicing package to cover the maintenance work required for your vehicle

·       Paint and Dent Protector packages to keep your vehicle looking like new

·       Collect & Return services for your vehicle for convenience and ease

In the following years, Mercedes-Benz will offer an EV version for almost all their existing model lines, many of them being Mercedes-EQ SUV versions like the EQE SUV and EQS SUV. Clearly Mercedes-Benz intends to offer the greatest selection of electric vehicles in the premium-luxury market.
