The evening featured a panel discussion on “sustainability, success and championing women in charge”, beauty treats and sunset test drives of Lexus’ luxury hybrids

One fine Thursday in March, Tatler Singapore and Lexus gathered a coterie of seriously driven women to celebrate not one but three things: International Women’s Day, innovative engineering and sustainability in luxury.

The event saw guests arriving at the sprawling Lexus showroom at Leng Kee Road, greeted by the Japanese car manufacture’s collection of hybrid vehicles basking in the early evening sun rays streaming through panoramic glass windows.

After a few lobster canapés and sips of specialty mocktails, half of the ladies were invited to test drive Lexus’ full hybrid sedans and SUVs, including the freshly minted RX Hybrid. “Ultra-silent”, “silky smooth” and “a luxury on the roads” were just some of the phrases used to describe this luxury SUV, which boasts a turbocharged 2.4-litre hybrid electric engine with undeniable fuel efficiency, impressive speed range, extreme control and customisable drive modes.

The other half of the ladies back at the showroom were treated to a skin analysis and beauty masks by MTM Labo, and got to blend their own essential oil room (or car) fragrances with soul-soothing notes of lavender, eucalyptus and ginger.

Once everyone had to returned to the showroom, Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Inchscape Greater China & Singapore was invited on stage to say a few words on the cleaner energy vehicles on site, as well as the progress Lexus has made in the sustainable automotive sector since launching its first hybrid in 2005.

Her insightful overview served as a great lead-up to the panel discussion of the evening, featuring Wong alongside Kelly Keak, managing director of MTM Labo and Tjin Lee, founder and CEO of Mercury Marketing & Communications and co-founder of CRIB. Moderated by Tatler Singapore’s branded content director, Dana Koh, the topic of “sustainability, success and championing women in charge” sought to delve deep into the growing importance of applying an environmentally and socially conscious lens to business operations to stay ahead of the curve across automotive, luxury and beauty industries…and beyond.

Once the panel discussion came to a close, and panellists were presented with a gift of appreciation—orchids which are a symbol of purity, energy and grace—guests were then invited for an exclusive preview of the all-new RZ. The RZ is Lexus’ first 100 per cent battery electric vehicle (BEV), representing the brand’s evolution using electrification technology. Here, Lexus Driving Signatures include Direct4, a new all-wheel drive force distribution system, improved intuitiveness through a Steer-by-Wire system, enhanced aerodynamic performance for an ultra-smooth and silent but powerful drive, and a host of advanced safety technologies and luxurious, ergonomic design features.

Marking the end of the evening, the event culminated with a few final toasts of elderflower tipple before guests went on their way. Besides taking away new learnings on the fresh generation of power fueling sustainability-conscious industries, ladies also left the showroom with MTM Labo goodies and preserved blooms.
