Taking a look at some of the hottest cars from this year’s GIIAS.

The 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) was recently held at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) centre. This year’s GIIAS is the biggest auto show in South East Asia, encompassing a space of over 96,000 square metres, with vehicles from 31 exhibitors and attracting a crowd of over 400,000 attendees.

The year’s theme for GIIAS is: “Green Technology for a Better Future”. With GIIAS, Gaikindo aims to create awareness about environmentally-friendly transportation, and the implementation of “greener” technology in the world of automotive.

Here are the some of the hottest cars on the floor:

BMW i8

In line with this year’s theme of “Green Technology for a Better Future”, BMW presented the BMW i8. The i8 is breaking new grounds by being the world’s first sports car to be purpose-built with sustainability in mind.

The i8 has the dimensions of a dynamic sports car’s. The long bonnet, short roofline and visible aerodynamic aids give it a much more character. The body of the i8 is exceptionally lightweight and aerodynamic, with a passenger cell entirely made of carbon-fibre-reinfored-plastic (CFRP).

The interior of the i8 is designed with the signature BMW driver focus, with future-driven designs. The driver and passengers of the car sit low down, traditional of sports cars. The leather, textile and plastic used to create the interior of the i8 are of supreme quality, while still being ecologically sustainable.

The bespoke plug-in hybrid engine system brings together BMW TwinPower Turbo and BMW eDrive technology. The intelligent energy management produces a maximum system output of 362hp, and a time of just 4.4 seconds to go from 0kph to 100kph. The combination of the combustion engine and electric motor delivers the hallmark BMW driving pleasure, at new levels of efficiency.

Jaguar F-Pace

GIIAS saw the debut of Jaguar’s first ever SUV: the F-Pace. The F-Pace quickly stole the limelight at the show, selling out of its blue version in just three days.

The F-Pace carries the mark of Jaguar’s expertise in aluminium body construction, with a body that is 80% made of aluminium. Constructing a car in aluminium brings about many benefits, including: weight savings, improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, increased crash safety and even better vehicle dynamics.

The F-Pace carries with it the signature Jaguar luxurious interior, a captivating exterior, sophisticated technology, and excellent handling. The interior blends elegance and sportiness, with fine craftsmanship that enrich the driving experience.

The F-Pace packs a punch with its V6 3000cc Supercharged engine. With a potential output 380PS, top speed of 250kph, and the ability to hit 100kph in five-and-a-half seconds, the F-Pace is a force to be reckoned with.

The All-New E-Class

Mercedes-Benz continues its dominance in Indonesia’s luxury automobile scene with a record-breaking showing of seven new models. Amidst the luxurious two-storey booth stands out a single car: the All-New E300 Avantgarde (AVA).

The tenth generation E-Class brings with it a slew of brand new “smart” features in a decidedly stylish and sporty shell. These new innovations allow the new E300 AVA to be more fuel efficient, safer, more comfortable, and is able to reduce stress while driving.

The interior of the E-300 AVA is a marriage of emotion and intelligence, with features defined by distinct forms and a sensual flow to them. Two large, next-generation high-resolution displays – the first in its class – visually conflate into a wide-screen cockpit display that seemingly floats in thin air. The infotainment system of the car is controlled by touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel, eliminating the need to take hands off the wheel.

The sophisticated design yet sporty look perfectly embodies the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy: Sensual Purity. The elongated bonnet and coupe-esque roof flowing into a broad-shouldered tail creates an exciting silhouette. The AVA line is identifiable by the sports radiator grille with a large Mercedes star as its centerpiece. The LED headlamps give a majestically focused look, with high-quality details that is unmistakably Mercedes-Benz.
