With the opening of Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice, Sanlorenzo solidifies its position as a curator of culture and community

In a world where luxury brands are under pressure to remain relevant amid growing demand for mindful consumption, Italian yacht builder Sanlorenzo has distinguished itself through three defining pillars: cultural innovation, sustainability leadership and pioneering yacht design. This is not a mere business strategy—it’s a comprehensive transformation that redefines what luxury means in modern times.

Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice exemplifies this cultural shift. Located opposite the majestic Basilica Santa Maria della Salute, the property occupies a meticulously restored 1940s mansion spanning 1,000sq m. Transformed under the creative direction of architect Piero Lissoni, it is conceived as “a place where you can come to pause, reflect and connect,” in the words of Sanlorenzo’s executive chairman Massimo Perotti.

The original brick façade has been preserved, while interiors have been reimagined in a contemporary architectural language. The site includes a 600sq m garden—a rare gem in Venice—and more than 700sq m of adaptable gallery space. A standout feature is the transparent glass staircase, which honours the building’s historic proportions while introducing a sense of lightness and flow.

This commitment to pushing boundaries in design is also seen Sanlorenzo’s revolutionary yachts. The SL86A exemplifies innovation with an asymmetric layout: the starboard walkway remains open while the port side expands on to the main deck, removing traditional staircases to enable uninterrupted movement. Meanwhile, the flagship SD132 achieves 420 gross tonnes within just 40.7 metres, using lateral terraces to create 70sq m of walkable beach area. The SP Line integrates solar panels that generate 3kWp/h, enabling sustainable hotel operations while anchored.

Sustainability leadership drives Sanlorenzo’s progress. The opening of Casa Sanlorenzo, which was timed with Venice Climate Week, was more than symbolic. Meanwhile, the company also unveiled its breakthrough 50Steel yacht, featuring the world’s first green methanol Reformer Fuel Cell system. This technology converts green methanol into electricity, powering hotel systems at zero emissions at anchor and covering up to 90 per cent of typical usage without diesel.

Looking ahead, Sanlorenzo’s “Road to 2030” strategy targets full carbon neutrality through strategic partnerships with Volvo Penta, Siemens Energy and Rolls-Royce. The upcoming 50 X-Space model will debut with bi-fuel green methanol propulsion, cutting navigation emissions by as much as 70 per cent. Across its production facilities, Sanlorenzo has also installed 1.5MW of photovoltaic systems, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 600 tonnes annually.
