Compact without compromise, the new Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron redefine their class of e-mobility
Audi has unveiled the new Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, which mark its first foray into the compact electric sports utility vehicle (eSUV) category. With their progressive designs, sporty performance and lifestyle-friendly features, the new cars are all-rounders that will appeal to young families, animal lovers and motoring enthusiasts alike.
Concept To Reality
The Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron represent the production versions of 2019’s Q4 concept and Q4 Sportback e-tron concept cars, and are thus another step forward in the marque’s development of its e-mobility line-up.
The new compact SUVs retain the concept version’s striking bodylines with short front overhangs and aggressive postures. Accordingly, their surface treatments have been pared back while still retaining an expressive, aerodynamic silhouette. The result? A drag coefficient of just 0.29 and 0.28 in the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, respectively.
Drivers’ Delight
To complement its designs, Audi has developed a suite of driver-centric features in these compact eSUVs. To start things off, an electric engine with an output of 210 kW powers each car to enable an impressive century sprint of just 6.7 seconds. This, coupled with the battery’s placement between the wheel axles for a balanced weight distribution and lower centre of gravity, help create a sporty, responsive drive that’s also stable and comfortable.
Various driving profiles and assistance features are also available to enhance the driving experience. Predictive efficiency assist, for instance, works to optimise energy consumption with a forward-looking algorithm, while adaptive cruise assist helps the driver with longitudinal and lateral guidance over the car’s entire speed range.

Versatility Redefined
The cars don’t just offer performance though. Instead, various quality-of-life features help cement their role as everyday e-mobility companions. For one, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron boast long operating ranges of 466km and 482km, respectively. This promises a convenient, stress-free experience for both commutes and long-distance drives. What’s more, the compact eSUVs can be quickly recharged at high power charging (HPC) stations; at their maximum charging capacity of 135kW, the cars can be recharged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 28 minutes.
Range and charging convenience aside, comfort was also a priority for Audi during development. This has translated accordingly, with the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron offering interior spaces that are well beyond the norm for the compact class—and more in line with full-size SUVs. From the generous legroom available to the luggage compartments that are expandable to nearly 1,500 litres, the expansive interior promises to please both driver and passengers.
A New Experience Awaits
The Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron will each be offered in two trims: Edition 1 and advanced. The Edition 1 versions come equipped with several features as standard, although owners of the advanced versions can still opt for them as add-ons. These include Matrix LED headlights, as well as an augmented reality head-up display that superimposes information from the navigation and driver assistance systems onto the real world for seamless updates.
Fusing innovative design, robust performance, and versatile features, Audi’s Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron make compelling choices in the compact eSUV market. With their impressive range, rapid charging capabilities, and spacious interiors, these models are poised to redefine everyday electric mobility for diverse lifestyles.
