The British luxury carmaker is bringing sexy back with the global return of its classic DBS model

Aston Martin is shaking up the Super GT scene. Having bid farewell to the Vanquish S, the British luxury carmaker is bringing sexy back with the global return of its classic DBS model; colliding with an Italian icon. And it’s available now to purchase in Hong Kong.

Released under the marque’s Second Century Plan, all eyes are on the new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.

Last seen in 2006 when James Bond himself drove it for Casino Royale, the DBS Superleggera (which translates to “super light” from Italian) is a modernised uptake on the Vanquish S, with the style sensibility of Aston’s original DBS from 1967.

Rivalling the release of the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the DBS Superleggera affirms the “innovative lightweight construction methods pioneered by Italian coachbuilder, Touring”, according to the UK luxury carmaker.

For younger Aston fans, or those of you that need a history refresh, Touring of Milan designed the original DBS in 1966, commissioned to replace the DB6. From here, the DBS paved the way for the DB4, 5 and 6 Mark.

Fast forward to 2018 and the new DBS Superleggera is all might. Fitted out with full carbon-fibre body panels, its much lighter than Aston’s most recent DB11 model, but with a kerb weight of 1,800kg. The DBS Superleggera is more muscular to look at too, but retains the Aston double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear.

Under the hood, the DBS does base its engine build off the DB11 with a similar Aston-made turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine. And with 725PS, and 900Nm of torque, Aston claims a top speed of 211mph and frightening acceleration that dispatches 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and 0-100mph in 6.4 seconds.

As for everyday features, the DBS Superleggera packs keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360-degree camera with parking distance display and park assist.

Media mavericks will appreciate the DAB audio system, with Bluetooth audio and phone streaming, iPod, iPhone and USB playback. There is also an integrated satellite navigation system and Wi-Fi hub. Quite simply, all the in-car infotainment systems use a central LCD screen, controlled via a central dial (because this is an Aston Martin).

Customisation is also an option to make it your own. There is a choice of several designer specifications when it comes to the cabin, with specially chosen colour and trim combinations on offer to buyers, which can be perused at the dealer.

Both standard and performance seats and steering wheel are also available, and different wheel types.

Arrived in town for summer, the DBS Superleggera marks the official debut of the marque’s flagship Super GT in Hong Kong. Moreover, it’s the third car delivered under the company’s Second Century Plan at The Leighton, Lanson Place Hotel, in Causeway Bay, making it one of many exciting releases available now locally.

Recommended retail pricing for the new DBS Superleggera is from HK$4,680,000 on the road.

Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in toward the end of 2018.
