The trailer for Prime Video's new series 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' is here, ready to bring viewers back to Middle-earth
The official trailer for Prime Video's new fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is here, and we can't be more excited. Based on the writings of esteemed literary genius J R R Tolkien, this series takes place thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings itself. The show, developed by J D Payne and Patrick McKay, will take viewers to an era of Middle-earth where "great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness."
The Rings of Power and its stellar cast, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, and Maxim Baldry, will take fans and newcomers to the series alike on a fantastic journey from the depths of the Misty Mountains to the forests of Lindon and to the furthest reaches of the map of Middle-earth.
Amazon was able to purchase the television rights to the First and Second Ages explored in the novel series and other writings of Tolkien such as The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle-earth. The series would be set in this period, focusing on the forging of the 19 Rings of Power given to Elves, Dwarves, and Men, as well as Sauron's "One ring to rule them all". The Tolkien estate remains on top of the adaptation, with the power to veto any changes that would be contradicting what the author wrote about the origins of Middle-earth and the events of the said Ages. To fill in the gaps, the series' writers also used as material the other writings of Tolkien like his letters and drafts unknown to many.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to release on September 2 2022 on Prime Video.
