Cover K-pop trio Viviz is performing in Hong Kong on October 18 and 19 as part of the New Legacy world tour

Ahead of K-pop group Viviz’s Hong Kong concerts, bandmates Eunha, SinB and Umji talk to Tatler about the art of reinvention

Endings can sometimes be new beginnings. That’s what K-pop trio Eunha, SinB and Umji have proven since debuting as Viviz in 2022, after the beloved six-member girl group GFriend became inactive in May 2021. Speaking to Tatler ahead of Viviz’s Hong Kong concert, Eunha says, “I just thought it simply couldn’t end like this. Because the three of us had the same vision and determination, we were able to start anew as Viviz. Looking back, it was a great decision.”

Since their debut, Viviz has established a distinct identity that feels fresh, new and yet honours their almost-decade-long experience in K-pop. Their upcoming Hong Kong concerts on October 18 and 19 at AXA Dreamland, a part of their New Legacy world tour, will showcase anew how, through sheer determination, this girl group successfully opened a new chapter when an old one closed.

The art of reinvention

Above “We always want to show new and refreshing sides of ourselves,” says Umji of Viviz

“We don’t shy away from challenging ourselves and trying new things; we are always ready, and I think that is where the secret lies,” says SinB.

This philosophy extends to their creative process. Where many established artists might stick to proven formulas, Viviz actively seeks the unexpected. “We always try out songs that match our age and the vibe,” Umji says. “Songs that suit us well, but are not basic, clichéd or easy to predict. We always want to show new and refreshing sides of ourselves.”

Their genre-fluid approach—spanning pop, rock, R&B, and alt-rock-based sounds—reflects this adventurous spirit. “When we have new tracks, we always listen to them with an open mind, as we don’t want to be tied down to one specific genre,” Umji continues. “We always wonder what these songs would sound like once we dress them up with our voices.”

The magic number

Above Viviz’s signature chemistry comes from the harmonious balance between the three members

As a trio, Viviz has discovered something special about their configuration. “I think three is such a harmonious number, regardless of what you do,” says SinB. “Because there are three of us, we often end up singing the same lines together, and that makes the vocal distribution feel pretty even.”

This natural balance extends beyond vocals to their entire stage presence, creating what fans have come to recognise as Viviz’s signature chemistry. It’s a dynamic that has served them well across major stages and award ceremonies, though each member treasures different milestone moments.

“Every single performance is a precious memory, but for me, the most memorable one would be our first concert,” says SinB. Meanwhile, Umji recalls a more recent highlight: “We performed in front of the Korean National Assembly building recently. It’s not an easy place to visit, so to be able to perform there was an incredible opportunity—we were very nervous and excited at the same time.”

For Eunha, it’s the intimate connections that resonate most: “I am suddenly reminded of our fan meeting. These days, we have been doing many concerts, and it seems like it’s been ages since we had a fan meeting. I want to have fun with our Na.V [Viviz’s fandom].”

Hong Kong-bound

That desire for connection fuels their excitement about returning to Hong Kong. “I think we’ve become quite close with our Hong Kong audiences since we’ve seen them pretty often, so I’m looking forward to even louder cheers,” Eunha says.

SinB’s enthusiasm is equally palpable: “It’s been a while since we’ve spent time with our Hong Kong Na.V, so I’m looking forward to everything. But I’m especially curious to see their reaction when we perform new sets that we didn’t show at last year’s concert.”

Standing out in the K-pop galaxy

Tatler Asia
Above Carving a place for oneself is not easy in the K-pop industry, but Viviz has done that through authenticity and variety

In an industry where audiences have access to countless groups and endless content, how does Viviz ensure it remains compelling? For Eunha, the answer lies in authenticity and variety: “I think the secret is to keep showing our fans new sides of ourselves on stage. This [Hong Kong] concert is especially packed with back-to-back performances. We are going to show Na.V not only our cool, magnetic side, but our fun, cute side too.”

Building something lasting

Above Viviz comments on their relationship with their agency, albeit obliquely—it’s a topic that most K-pop performers are hesitant to discuss

Perhaps most tellingly, when discussing their relationship with their agency, the trio’s collaborative mindset shines through. “We have the responsibility of building the Viviz brand together,” Umji says. “Each of us tries to do our part well, so we can create that synergy. I believe that by actively sharing our thoughts and opinions, we can produce the best results.”

As Vviviz continues their world tour, their journey continues to evolve both literally and metaphorically. What began as three artists facing a career transition has developed into a group that balances experience with experimentation. It remains to be seen what new heights their talent and determination will take them. We’ll be watching—and listening.
