From Cassie McKay’s legal woes to Dr Robby’s trauma and Santos’ rise, here are the loose ends ‘The Pitt’ episode 15 needs to answer

As The Pitt prepares for its highly anticipated season finale, fans of the HBO Max series are eager to see how the remaining storylines are tied up. Set during a single 15-hour shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, The Pitt has become a breakout hit in 2025, drawing comparisons to Noah Wyle’s previous series ER and even Disney+’sThe Bear for its mix of intense pacing, emotional depth and high-stakes medical drama.

Over the past 14 episodes, the show has delivered non-stop intensity, emotionally charged character arcs and a real-time portrayal of life inside a trauma hospital. With episode 15 marking the end of its groundbreaking debut season, viewers are bracing for a finale that promises resolution, shock and possibly more heartbreak.

Here are all the storylines that we can look forward to resolving (or not) in the season finale. Be warned: spoilers ahead.

Dr Cassie McKay’s legal troubles

At the end of episode 14, Dr Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif) was arrested for tampering with her ankle monitor during a mass casualty event. This development not only jeopardises her medical career but also her personal life, particularly her relationship with her son, Harrison, of whom she was hoping to regain custody following previous legal troubles that she has only hinted at throughout the season. Fans of The Pitt are wondering whether McKay will go to jail or if she’ll manage to find validation—if not redemption—in the finale.

Dr Robby Robinavitch’s emotional breakdown

Dr Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) continues to wrestle with trauma, most notably after the PittFest mass shooting that killed Jake’s girlfriend, Leah. Episode 14 saw Robby suffering a panic attack, suggesting a deeper breakdown that may also have to do with his unprocessed emotions about the death of his mentor four years prior. Though he quite literally picked himself up off the floor, Robby was notably (and presumably uncharacteristically) on edge, prompting colleagues to wonder about his mental state. As viewers await episode 15, many wonder how Robby will lead the ER team while navigating profound personal turmoil.

Dr Santos’ rollercoaster ride

Dr Trinity Santos (Isa Briones), a Filipino American intern, is one of The Pitt’s most talked-about characters. Known equally for her bluntness and her brilliance, she exposed a colleague’s drug misuse, secretly threatened a patient and performed several risky procedures successfully—all on her first day in the ER. Her arc raises questions about whether she’ll conform or continue disrupting protocol, and whether she’s a future hero or liability.

Dr Collins’ silent grief

Unbeknownst to most of her colleagues, Dr Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) suffered a miscarriage during her shift and chose to continue working. Though she was sent home before the MCI that dominated the last two episodes, this storyline adds a subtle but poignant thread to The Pitt, and fans hope the finale will acknowledge her grief in a meaningful way.

Dr Frank Langdon’s addiction

It was revealed midway through the series that Dr Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) has been battling substance abuse, leading to a confrontation with his boss, Dr Robby. Though ejected from the ER, Langdon showed up to help with the deluge of patients following the PittFest incident, over Robby’s initial objections. This won’t be resolved soon, but the season finale will likely hint at whether he will face disciplinary action—or take the first steps toward recovery.

Nurse Dana Evans’ career path

Dana Evans (Katherin LaNasa), the charge nurse and backbone to The Pitt’s operations—as well as the steadily beating heart of the staff—had a moment with Dr Robby where she mentioned to her colleague and friend that she was packing it in, after a degrading, dangerous incident with an irate patient. That moment was quickly swept aside as the events of The PittFest MCI galvanised the two into action, but fans would like to be reassured that the crowd favourite will be around for season 2.

The aftermath of PittFest

The PittFest incident cast a shadow over the hospital, and its effects are still rippling through every character. Will The Pitt finale explore how the staff and patients move forward, or leave this trauma unresolved until season 2? Given that early hints say that the next season will be set months after the first, it’s likely that this story arc will have to be wrapped up in the next episode. That means that viewers will find out what happens to troubled teen David Saunders (Jackson Kelly) and his concerned mother, Theresa (Joanna Going), who have been recurring characters throughout most of the season.
