The Peranakan Association Singapore welcomed the New Year in grand style at the Peranakan Ball 2024 on December 31
To ring in the New Year, the Peranakan Association Singapore held its biannual Peranakan Ball on December 31, at the Island Ballroom of Shangri-La Singapore. The much-anticipated celebration brought together the community in a dazzling display of Peranakan culture. This year’s ball was especially meaningful as guests from The Singapore Cheshire Home and Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore) joined in the celebrations.
The event featured a vibrant bazaar showcasing an array of Peranakan jewellery, from vintage to modern treasures; a stunning collection of vintage kebayas; as well as 3D-printed collectibles that blended tradition with modernity.
In the spirit of celebrating culture and heritage, Nyonya Jackie Sam gave a special demonstration of intricate beading and embroidery, captivating everyone with her artistry. She also shared the stories behind her stunning creations, offering a rare glimpse into the beauty of this treasured craft.

The charming duo of Baba Richard Tan and Nyonya Koh Chieng Mun were the hosts for the evening, while the entertainment was provided by The Merrilads Band, The Peranakan Voices, and guest singers Nyonya Noor Quek, Baba Clement Chow, Nyonya Melissa Sidek and Nyonya Shirley Tay.
A dazzling fashion parade showcased exquisite kebayas by award-winning designer Baba Raymond Wong, paired with handcrafted jewellery by Foundation Jewellers. The best-dressed attendees—five elegantly dressed ladies and five dashing gentlemen—received special recognition for their impeccable style and grace.

Guests savoured a Peranakan-inspired menu, which included dishes such as braised beef cheek pongteh prepared by the talented chefs of Shangri-La Singapore. Adding to the festive spirit, a silent auction and raffle draw featured amazing prizes, contributing to the association’s fundraising efforts and helping to sustain its cultural initiatives.
As the clock struck midnight, the ballroom filled with cheers and champagne toasts, ringing in 2025 with elegance, laughter, and the cherished Peranakan spirit that continues to evolve and thrive.
