‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel is reportedly in development. It remains to be seen if Disney will bring back original cast members such as Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway
When The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006, it became a mammoth hit for capturing the cutthroat world of high-fashion journalism in the most hilarious and relatable way. Now, 18 years later, Disney has reportedly said that a sequel is in the works.
The original story follows Andy Sachs, a bright-eyed journalism grad who lands her dream job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the legendarily icy editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine. The plot revolves around Sachs’ growth in the shark-infested corporate world, and how she wins Priestly’s trust before quitting Runway and pursuing her career in journalism.
However, it seems as if it’s not a final “goodbye” to the protagonists, as Disney is said to reprise many of the original characters. According to several entertainment media outlets, Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for The Devil Wears Prada, is in talks with Disney to work on the sequel. It’s also been reported that producer Wendy Finerman will be returning. We don’t yet know if any of the leading actors from the original movie—such as Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt—will be recast in this edition too, but one thing’s certain: fashionistas and movie lovers alike can expect a masterclass in withering wit from Priestly, as she tackles the decline in the traditional publishing industry.
