From new films like ‘Starfighter’ to ‘Ahsoka’ season 2, here are the biggest announcements from Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan
Star Wars Celebration 2025 brought fans from across the galaxy to the Makuhari Messe Convention Centre in Chiba City, Japan, for a record-breaking event that celebrated the enduring legacy and future of the Star Wars universe. Held from April 18 to 20, the convention drew more than 100,000 attendees, making it the most successful Celebration in the event’s 26-year history. This year’s edition was particularly significant, marking only the second time Star Wars Celebration had been staged in Asia following its 2008 debut in Japan.

Across three days, Lucasfilm unveiled a packed slate of new films, series, and special projects, giving fans an exclusive look at the next chapter of storytelling in the galaxy far, far away. Here’s a look at what lies ahead in the Star Wars universe:

Star Wars: Starfighter (2027)
Director Shawn Levy and actor Ryan Gosling, introduced by Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy, announced Star Wars: Starfighter, a standalone film set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The film will explore a previously uncharted era in the timeline.
Release date: May 28, 2027
The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)
Executive producer Jon Favreau and actor Pedro Pascal presented exclusive footage and behind-the-scenes images from The Mandalorian and Grogu. Also joining them onstage were Sigourney Weaver and Grogu (Baby Yoda). The film will continue the story of the beloved bounty hunter and his young Force-sensitive companion.

Returning series with new seasons
Andor season 2
The critically acclaimed political thriller Andor has just returned for a second season. Showrunner Tony Gilroy and cast members including Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen), and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma) previewed new developments in the series during the Celebration, a few days before the first few new episodes dropped on Disney+.
Ahsoka season 2
Production for Ahsoka season 2 officially begins in April 2025. Lead star Rosario Dawson and returning cast member Hayden Christensen joined directors Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to unveil concept art and behind-the-scenes images. Actor Rory McCann (Game of Thrones) will take over the role of Baylan Skoll from the late Ray Stevenson.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures season 3
The animated series aimed at younger audiences will return for a third season, continuing to explore the early training of young Jedi.
Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld
Lucasfilm Animation will debut Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, a new anthology series exploring the galaxy’s darker criminal underbelly.
Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord
Darksider fans of Darth Maul can anticipate Maul – Shadow Lord, an animated series chronicling the Sith Lord’s continued influence.
Light and Magic season 2
Light and Magic season 2, the documentary series on the groundbreaking work of Industrial Light & Magic, is now streaming on Disney+.

While these were not announced during the Celebration, Force fans also have new Star Wars merch from Lucasfilm and Disney Item 1 Preview Caption to look out for, to be released for Star Wars Day on May 4.
Star Wars Lego sets
Lego is releasing new sets which will be available on Lego.com. The sets include new droid models such as K-2SO from Rogue One and Chopper from Star Wars: Rebels. Soon to be released are three new starships: Jango Fett’s Firespray-Class starship, Kylo Ren’s command shuttle and a Rebel U-Wing starfighter. Lastly, Kylo Ren and Jango Fett’s helmets will be available for pre-order. There’s even a buildable classic Star Wars logo set.
Star Wars Lofi vinyl record
Available from Disneymusicemporium.com, the Star Wars Lofi (Music from Vol. 1-3) vinyl record is a must have for those who want to sit back and listen to lofi galactic tunes.
Star Wars: The Mask of Fear (Reign of the Empire) book
In this first book of a trilogy published by Penguin Random House and written by author Alexander Freed, the Rebellion is witnessed through the eyes of Mon Mothma, Bail Organa and Saw Gerrera. As the three characters work towards building the foundations of the Rebel Alliance, they overcome their own challenges in their fight against the Galactic Empire.
Star Wars Meiyo collectible cards
This limited edition set of 100 collectible characters are inspired by Japanese artwork style straight from Star Wars Celebration 2025, and will be available from the Topps website. The characters come from either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire with rare cards such as the Medal of Yavin, autographs, posters and original sketch cards.
