Swedish Youtuber Felix Kjellberg is close to the hearts of Filipinos, here’s why
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, more known as Felix Kjellberg or simply Felix, is widely referred to as PewDiePie. He first registered his YouTube channel in 2010, posting 'Let’s Play' videos of horror and action games.

Kjellberg’s channel immediately grew two years after he started, becoming the most subscribed on YouTube by 2013. The following year, he diversified his content from games to music videos, vlogs, and formatted shows—earning PewDiePie the most-viewed channel on the platform until 2017.

For the succeeding years, Kjellberg uploaded less and took frequent breaks from the Internet. Eventually, he semi-retired from YouTube and focused on his personal life. But it’s more than 10 years since his first video, PewDiePie's legendary bro-fist amongst bros is still intact and he still has over 111 million subscribers and 28 billion views with a big chunk sourced from the Philippines. Obviously, Filipinos have grown attached to the streamer slash content creator. But what’s the secret behind it all?

1. His comical personality
It is a talent to flawlessly apply humour, but it is a skill to successfully incorporate comedy into your craft. Filipinos love to have a good laugh and Kjellberg's naturally funny character made it to the top of the Philippines' entertainment.
In the above video, he went through some data in terms of searches about his YouTube channel on Google Trends. Fast forward to around the 5:50 time mark, he was surprised that the Philippines was the second biggest country he's most popular in. This clip was sensational for Filipinos due to Kjellberg's famous words "Philippinian bros, thank you!" which hastily caught the attention of Filipinos in the comment section.

Another spotlight for the Philippines from PewDiePie is the snippet below from a member-exclusive video wherein Kjellberg spoke in Filipino. "Guwapo ako," the YouTuber tried to perfectly say. But the winning moment for this video was actually his hilarious side comment, "Manila is annoying" as he tries to manage the Philippines' capital city road and build a traffic network by playing the strategy simulation game Mini Motorways. The Filipino viewers didn't hesitate to instantly express their relatable remarks on Kjellberg's statement.

2. His clever choice of platform
YouTube is a globally profound online video-sharing platform. It is the main avenue for music content before gaming content followed suit with the most popular YouTube creators today coming from gaming channels. At the same time Twitch and its gaming community were rising. On top of the explosion of video game streaming, PewDiePie's channel skyrocketed.
Kjellberg's wise move to maximise the best games in trends such as Uncharted and The Last of Us appealed to large audiences, especially those who can't play the games themselves. Similar to sports but in terms of the digital world, streaming is an avenue to watch esports from different perspectives of players of one's preference.

Additionally, his decision to embrace variety and integrate a much wider array of interests was a dash of new and refreshing entertainment. His ability to formulate ideas and mix them up with different kinds of content was a professional—rather, 'big pp' as pewds would call it—gesture for creators in his field. Kjellberg's iconic videos are living proof of his relevance since the first PewDiePie video.
3. His sincere interaction with the community
In parallel to the world of celebrities, a solid connection with your viewers and communities is a key factor in being a successful YouTuber. Kjellberg maintained his online figure beyond PewDiePie by strengthening his ties with the community. He responds even to negative comments and makes them light, showing his fans that he cares about them, and just knows how to have fun and make his way around the platform.

Kjellberg also valued consistency, making sure he regularly uploads significant content that leaves off a happy impression on the viewer's perspective. On top of his fresh content, he's also dared to play independent games and fan-made games, and showcase collaborations. His overall character as being accessible and genuinely approachable with his hard work and efforts definitely paid off.
Kjellberg's online fame has been noted to boost sales for the video games he features which allowed him to stir support for charity fundraising drives as well. Who would've thought a big online star would be an even bigger philanthropist too? His legendary milestones in YouTube history carved his path to being one of the most influential online personalities.
So far, it is confirmed that he has donated to over 10 organisations in the past years such as World Wide Fund for Nature, Save the Children, Child Rights for You (CRY), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Papyrus, and BlueCross Foundation.
No wonder the mobile game PewDiePie's Tuber Simulator was as successful as much as he is a blessing to foundations.
4. His love for Edgar and Maya
Just when you thought there are no more reasons to love Kjellberg apart from his YouTube career, here's another. Because who doesn't approve of their fellow pet lovers? PewDiePie didn't just contribute a big fraction of his videos playing video games, he also opened his doors to sharing his personal life. Specifically, his adorable pugs Edgar and Maya.
The online world even paid its respects at the time Maya passed away just last year in November and a lot of people bid farewell to one of PewDiePie's 'furbaby'.
5. Marzia Kjellberg
It's been more than a decade's worth of journey with PewDiePie. Thus, his romantic relationship with Italian internet personality and businesswoman Marzia Kjellberg has long been out of the shadows. Apart from her distinct beauty, Marzia's venture into writing, fashion, and design made it easy for Felix's fans to share the same love for her. Some would say, exceed it.
Over the years, we've witnessed Marzia's appearance in PewDiePie's videos, the moment they got married, and the time they moved to Japan. Time really does fly when you're having fun. Just recently, Felix shared another wave of fun and good news in his latest video—Marzia's pregnant and he's going to be a dad. Congratulations Felix and Marzia!
