Held from October 2 to 23, Ong successfully beat out competitors spanning 54 countries before it was announced that he was among the 11 who have advanced to the final round.

Speaking to the Polish Press Agency, Ong shared his humble thoughts on his performance, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent Malaysia on such a historic stage.

“Of course, it matters that I am the first Malaysian (to reach the finals of the competition). But it does not matter in the sense that all people, irrespective of their origin, love music,” Ong said.

Having been a choir accompanist at Heng Ee High School in Penang, Ong then spent years musically training in Germany, according to a post by The Penang Global Tourism Bureau online.
