K-pop group NJZ, formerly NewJeans, has been banned from independent activities without Ador’s approval, as ruled by the Seoul Central District Court. They face fines for violations and have been in a legal battle with Ador since November 2024

NJZ, formerly NewJeans, which consists of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein, were banned from independent activities without the approval from their agency, Ador, as ruled by the Seoul Central District Court on May 30. The court ruled that NJZ has to pay one billion won (approximately HK $5.7 million) per person to the agency if they violate the decision.

NewJeans rebranded themselves as NJZ in February after announcing the end of their contract in November 2024 and following their widely reported battle with Ador, a subsidiary of the South Korean entertainment giant Hybe. In March, the same court prohibited NewJeans from entering into individual endorsement or entertainment arrangements without the agency’s approval.

Two days after the ruling, NJZ performed at the Hong Kong edition of the pop culture music festival ComplexCon; at the end of the show, the band announced they would be taking a break from live performances.
