1883 moves the Dutton story back to the aftermath of the American Civil War. James Dutton, played by Tim McGraw, and his wife Margaret, played by Faith Hill, leave Texas with their children Elsa and John and join a wagon train travelling west. The group is led by Shea Brennan, played by Sam Elliott, a Civil War veteran who agrees to guide the emigrants towards Oregon. Thomas, played by LaMonica Garrett, serves as Shea’s trusted partner.

Much of the story is seen through Elsa Dutton, played by Isabel May, whose coming of age unfolds alongside the family’s dangerous journey. The travellers face disease, hunger, violence, harsh weather, difficult terrain and disputes within the wagon train as they cross the Great Plains. James and Margaret’s marriage provides one of the show’s central relationships, while Elsa’s experiences with the people she meets shape her understanding of adulthood and the world around her.

The series is a direct origin story for Yellowstone. James Dutton becomes the first Dutton patriarch shown establishing the family‘s Montana homestead, creating the foundation for the ranch that exists in the modern series. The story also connects to 1923 through the Dutton family line, making 1883 the chronological starting point of the main television saga.

Set four decades after 1883, 1923 follows another generation of Duttons as the family ranch faces economic, environmental and political pressures. Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton, brother of James Dutton, while Helen Mirren plays his wife Cara. The story also follows Jacob’s nephew Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, who has left Montana to work as a big-game hunter in Africa after serving in the First World War. His relationship with Alexandra, played by Julia Schlaepfer, becomes one of the show‘s major storylines.

Back in Montana, Jacob and Cara attempt to protect the ranch during a period marked by drought, economic hardship and conflict over land. Jack Dutton, played by Darren Mann, is another important member of the family, while Elizabeth, played by Michelle Randolph, is his fiancée. The series also follows Teonna Rainwater, played by Aminah Nieves, whose experiences at a residential school form a separate but eventually intersecting storyline.

The second season intensifies the family crisis. Jacob and Cara contend with a brutal winter and threats to the ranch while Spencer races home to Montana and Alexandra attempts to reunite with him after being separated during their journey.

Landman shifts the setting from cattle ranches to the oil fields of West Texas. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a landman working between oil executives, investors and the roughnecks who operate drilling sites. Tommy is caught between the financial ambitions of powerful oil companies and the physical risks faced by workers in the field. Ali Larter plays his ex-wife Angela, while Demi Moore plays Cami Miller, the wife of oil executive Monty Miller and a longtime friend of Tommy.

Tommy’s family is central to the story. His children include Cooper, played by Jacob Lofland, and Ainsley, played by Michelle Randolph. His professional life is closely tied to Monty Miller, played by Jon Hamm, whose position in the oil industry gives Tommy access to the people controlling enormous amounts of money. The series moves between the oil patch, boardrooms and family life, showing how decisions made at the executive level affect the workers and communities around the rigs.

The series is based on the podcast Boomtown, produced by Texas Monthly and Imperative Entertainment, and was co-created with Christian Wallace. It is not part of the Yellowstone storyline, although its West Texas setting and Sheridan’s recurring interest in land, wealth and regional power give it some thematic overlap with his Western dramas.

Mayor of Kingstown takes place in Kingstown, Michigan, a fictional city where prisons are the dominant industry. The McLusky family operates as an informal intermediary between prisoners, law enforcement, politicians, guards and criminal groups. Jeremy Renner plays Mike McLusky, who has inherited the role of negotiating between competing interests after the death of his brother Mitch. Hugh Dillon plays Detective Ian, while Dianne Wiest plays Mike’s mother Mariam and Taylor Handley plays his younger brother Kyle.

Mike’s position gives him access to people on both sides of the prison system, but that access comes with constant risk. He negotiates with inmates and gangs while trying to prevent violence from spilling beyond prison walls. The series also examines the relationship between incarceration and the wider community, including corruption, inequality and the competing interests of prisoners, guards and law enforcement.

Unlike the Dutton shows, Mayor of Kingstown has no narrative connection to Yellowstone or the other series. It is a separate fictional world, co-created by Sheridan and Dillon. Paramount+ has announced that its fifth season will be its final season.

Dutton Ranch picks up with Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler after the events of Yellowstone. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser return as the married couple, while Finn Little reprises his role as Carter, the young ranch hand they have taken under their care. The three leave Montana and establish a new life in South Texas, where they become involved with the Rio Paloma community and the local ranching economy.

The move does not remove the couple from the conflicts that defined their lives in Montana. Beth and Rip attempt to build a business and secure their future while dealing with rival interests and threats to their land. Annette Bening plays Beulah Jackson, a major figure in the Texas storyline, while Ed Harris also appears in the cast.

Dutton Ranch is a direct Yellowstone spin-off. Beth is the daughter of John Dutton III and sister of Kayce Dutton, while Rip was one of John’s most trusted ranch hands before marrying Beth. The first season contains nine episodes and Paramount+ has renewed the series for a second season.

Tulsa King follows Dwight “The General” Manfredi, played by Sylvester Stallone, a New York mafia capo who is released after serving 25 years in prison. Instead of being welcomed back into his old organisation, Dwight is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to establish a new criminal operation. He quickly discovers that his old assumptions about organised crime do not translate neatly to his new surroundings.

Dwight begins assembling a new group around himself. Martin Starr plays Bodhi, the owner of a marijuana dispensary who becomes part of Dwight‘s operation, while Jay Will plays Tyson, a young driver who becomes one of his closest associates. Garrett Hedlund plays Mitch Keller, a former rodeo competitor whose relationship with Dwight develops into a business partnership. Andrea Savage plays Stacy Beale, an ATF agent whose professional interest in Dwight complicates their personal relationship.

The series mixes organised crime with a fish-out-of-water setup, following Dwight as he attempts to build an empire while dealing with enemies in both Tulsa and New York. It is a standalone story that has been renewed for a fourth season, with Terence Winter returning as head writer and executive producer.

The Madison is a standalone family drama starring Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays Stacy Clyburn, a New York mother whose family relocates to Montana after a devastating tragedy. Kurt Russell plays her husband Preston, while Matthew Fox plays her brother-in-law Paul. Beau Garrett plays Abigail Reese, Stacy‘s daughter Paige‘s mother, and Patrick J. Adams plays Russell McIntosh.

The six-episode first season begins with the Clyburn family’s life being upended by the deaths of Preston and Paul in a plane crash. Stacy and her daughters are left to process the loss while adjusting to life in Montana. The move brings them into contact with Abigail’s family and the wider community, while unresolved grief creates tension between the characters.

The season moves between Montana and New York as Stacy struggles to understand how to live with her loss. Her relationship with her daughters becomes a major focus, particularly as each family member responds differently to grief. By the finale, therapy forces Stacy to confront feelings she has been avoiding. The series has been renewed for a second and third season.

Originally titled Special Ops: Lioness, Lioness is a CIA thriller built around a covert programme that uses female operatives to infiltrate targets and gather intelligence. Zoe Saldaña plays Joe McNamara, the station chief responsible for training and managing the Lioness teams. Laysla De Oliveira plays Cruz Manuelos in the first season, a Marine recruited for an undercover assignment involving the daughter of a terrorist.

The series places its operatives between military operations and personal relationships. Cruz has to establish trust with her target while concealing her real identity, while Joe manages the mission from behind the scenes and deals with the consequences of sending operatives into situations where their cover can collapse at any moment. Nicole Kidman plays senior CIA officer Kaitlyn Meade and Morgan Freeman plays Edwin Mullins, senior figures within the wider intelligence operation.

Later seasons introduce new missions and operatives rather than continuing one single undercover story. Season three, which is airing in 2026, follows Joe and her team through an intelligence operation involving Russia and Ukraine, with the story also examining the effect of Joe’s work on her family.

Lioness is not part of the Yellowstone universe. It occupies its own contemporary espionage setting, although it shares Sheridan as its creator and has several recurring performers who have appeared elsewhere in his work. Ian Bohen, for example, plays Delta Force operator Grady in season three after starring as Ryan in Yellowstone.

Marshals by Taylor Sheridan continues the story of Kayce Dutton after Yellowstone. Luke Grimes returns in the role, with Kayce leaving the Yellowstone Ranch and joining an elite unit of U.S. Marshals operating in Montana. His military background as a former Navy SEAL becomes part of his new role as he works alongside Pete Calvin, played by Logan Marshall-Green, Andrea Cruz, played by Ash Santos, and Miles Kittle, played by Tatanka Means.

The series uses the structure of a crime procedural while retaining Kayce’s existing relationships with the people and communities of Montana. Early cases involve threats connected to Broken Rock, including an investigation into a bomber targeting the reservation. Later episodes involve missing people, trafficking, prison escapes and attacks against Broken Rock chairman Thomas Rainwater, played again by Gil Birmingham. Mo Brings Plenty also returns from Yellowstone.

Marshals is therefore one of the most direct continuations in the franchise. It begins after the Yellowstone Ranch chapter of Kayce’s life and carries forward characters and relationships from the original series.
