The theme for the Met Gala 2025 is derived from the theme of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s influential book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity (2009), which documents the significance of the Black male dandy figure and their pioneering role in forming Black identity from the 18th century.

Adhering to the exhibition’s theme, the dress code for this year’s Met Gala is Tailored for You, which pays tribute to the elaborately tailored suits worn by Black dandy men. The focus at this year’s gala will be on menswear and its interpretations, especially on the power of sartorial choices to critique and subvert colonialism.

This year, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams will join Anna Wintour as the co-chairs, while LeBron James will be the honorary chair—making it the basketball star’s first-ever Met Gala appearance.
In keeping with tradition, the 2025 Met Gala will also have a host committee featuring “the King of R&B” Usher, Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, American rappers André 3000 and Doechii, singer and actor Jeremy Pope, “The Bear” actor Ayo Edebiri, contemporary artists Rashid Johnson and Jordan Casteel, sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and many others.

While the guest list has been kept tightly under wraps, we can definitely expect to see the luminous list of hosts and co-chairs listed above. In addition, co-chairs can bring a plus one, which means Domingo’s husband Raúl Domingo and Williams’s wife Helen Lasichanh might be in attendance. Meanwhile, fans are hoping that Rihanna will be making a splashy comeback with her husband Rocky after missing it last year due to illness. Also, Kim Kardashian hasn’t missed a single Met Gala since 2012, so we won’t be surprised if she returns with a jaw-dropping look.
