The Mama Awards 2025 in Kai Tak will proceed as scheduled, though the red carpet has been cancelled
CJ ENM, the organiser of The Mama Awards 2025, announced yesterday (November 27, 2025) that the K-pop music event in Kai Tak Sports Park’s main arena will proceed as scheduled on November 28 and 29, 2025, though the red carpet has been cancelled. A memorial segment will be included at the start of the ceremony to commemorate the victims of the deadly Tai Po fire in Hong Kong’s New Territories.
A statement released to the press says:
“We are deeply saddened by the fire and extend our sincerest condolences to all residents affected and the families who have lost loved ones. The 2025 Mama Awards embody the dedication and passion of countless artists, staff and fans. We believe in the power of music to heal and unite, offering comfort and support during this difficult time. The production will be thoughtfully adjusted to bring audiences performances that convey both care and strength.
As a gesture of mourning, a moment of silence will be observed during the event, and donations will be made to support affected families. The 2025 Mama Awards will take on the theme ‘Support Hong Kong’, seeking to bring positivity to the city. We believe that music can bring people together, uplift spirits and inspire courage to move forward. Our hearts are with Hong Kong as we walk through this painful time together.”

Several artists and celebrities, including Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-fat and Hong Kong boyband Mirror, have since withdrawn from the event. Yeoh and Chow were originally scheduled to present awards, while Mirror had been slated to perform.
The decision to scale back the event follows a devastating fire that broke out in Tai Po on November 26, destroying part of a residential estate. The blaze resulted in the deaths of 94 people and injured 76 others, according to official figures available as of November 28, 2025.
