From Park Bo-gum, Kim You-jung and Jinyoung to Chae Soo-bin and Kwak Dong-yeon, the cast of ‘Love in the Moonlight’ reunited for a nostalgic tenth anniversary getaway complete with a costume photoshoot and a new OST remake
A decade on from Love in the Moonlight’s 2016 premiere, Park Bo-gum, Kim You-jung, Jinyoung, Chae Soo-bin and Kwak Dong-yeon reunited for a tenth anniversary celebration. KBS2’s two-part variety special Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn followed the cast to Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, for an overnight stay spent revisiting the drama and making a few new memories along the way.
From rafting and a countryside grocery run to an impromptu music programme hosted by Park Bo-gum, the reunion offered plenty of opportunities for the cast’s easy chemistry to shine. There were sentimental moments too, including a new version of the drama’s Misty Road OST and a sweet farewell for Kwak Dong-yeon ahead of his military service.
The cast have stayed close over the years, so the getaway felt less like a reunion between old colleagues and more like longtime friends catching up, with the same affectionate warmth fans have come to expect from the Moonlight Five.

The Moonlight Five kicked off their reunion trip with a toast of lotus tea before playfully handing out superlatives among themselves. Chae Soo-bin was dubbed the “short-tempered herbivore” for her endearingly sweet tantrums, while Kim You-jung earned the “Dr Oh Eun-yeong” nickname for being the group’s resident babysitter despite being its youngest member. Park Bo-gum was crowned the squad’s “student council president” for obvious reasons. Kwak Dong-yeon was named the “youngest uncle” for his penchant for poking fun at the others, while Jinyoung took home “best reactions to being teased”—a fitting title given how readily the others enjoy teasing him.
‘Love in the Moonlight’ cast reunion highlight: water sports

The cast, fondly known as the “Gurmi Squad” among fans of the K-drama, revealed that an out-of-town trip was among their ideas for marking the milestone. Naturally, a countryside summer trip called for a little outdoor adventure.
First up was a leisurely raft ride down the Hongcheon River, which gave Jinyoung’s castmates fresh material for some good-natured ribbing. Knowing he can’t swim, the others couldn’t resist bringing it up as they prepared to set off together.
Next came a jump into the river from a height, with Park Bo-gum, a former competitive swimmer, going first, followed by Kim You-jung, who proved game for anything. Kwak Dong-yeon ended up doing acrobatic flips, and even Chae Soo-bin and Jinyoung plucked up the courage to take the plunge.

‘Love in the Moonlight’ cast reunion highlight: grocery run
The cast then headed to a local supermarket to pick up ingredients for their dinner, with Kim You-jung in charge of the grocery list and Park Bo-gum holding the purse strings. Even a simple grocery run, however, came with its share of playful distractions. Kim You-jung spotted a potato-shaped squishy she wanted to add to the haul, only for Park Bo-gum to gently insist that it go back on the shelf. The youngest member was not quite ready to give up on her impulse purchase, turning the otherwise practical errand into a cheeky exchange. In the end, the potato squishy went into the cart.
Park Bo-gum, meanwhile, proved that he wasn’t entirely immune to temptation himself. While making his way through the aisles with Kwak Dong-yeon, he quietly slipped a few snacks into the cart, prompting Kwak Dong-yeon to tell him to put them back lest he spoil his appetite before dinner. It was a small moment, but one that captured the near-familial dynamic among the cast.

As the former host of the music talk show Cantabile, Park Bo-gum was well placed to run the evening. After dinner, he transformed the reunion into a special “Moonlight Cantabile” session, giving the cast a chance to let loose with music and lively banter.
The evening included watching and reacting to scenes from the drama and listening to the directors reminisce about filming. The cast also re-enacted the tense love-triangle scene and gave the iconic lantern scene a meaningful twist.
‘Love in the Moonlight’ cast reunion highlight: ‘Misty Road’ performance
Recording an album had been another idea for the cast’s tenth anniversary reunion. While that plan didn’t quite come together as imagined, Park Bo-gum and Jinyoung—affectionately dubbed the “Moonlight Princes”—offered a welcome alternative with a surprise duet of Misty Road from the drama’s OST. The new recording, with Park Bo-gum on piano, is now available on streaming platforms.

The celebrations continued late into the night with a cosy pyjama party. Dressed in matching PJs given to them by Kim You-jung, the Moonlight Five settled in for midnight snacks and ice cream, extending the evening into a low-key friend-group hangout.
The following morning brought another surprise, this time for Kwak Dong-yeon, who was preparing to begin his mandatory military service. The cast arranged a farewell with a cake and a photo album of memories from filming and their get-togethers since, plus gifts and handwritten messages.

To round out the trip, the cast ticked off an item from their reunion plans: a photoshoot with a little help from the team behind Love in the Moonlight. Members of the K-drama’s original hair, make-up and costume departments transformed the cast for the occasion, dressing them in their costumes, complete with wigs and period styling.
The Love in the Moonlight cast’s tenth anniversary reunion offered plenty for fans to enjoy, from familiar inside jokes and recreated memories to a new musical collaboration that brought the original OST back into the spotlight. Ending the trip in their Love in the Moonlight costumes brought the celebration full circle, while the cast’s bond proved that the connection forged on set has continued well beyond the K-drama itself.
