Prime Video takes audiences back to the beginning with ‘Elle’, the highly anticipated ‘Legally Blonde’ prequel tracing the teenage years of Elle Woods
There are few cultural icons as enduring as Elle Woods. Twenty-five years after she first clicked her heels into Harvard Law, the world is heading back to the beginning. Prime Video has announced that Elle, the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel from Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere on 1 July 2026, streaming exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. In a confident show of support, the series has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut.
Rather than revisiting the courtroom, Elle turns its gaze to the hallways of high school. Season one follows a teenage Elle Woods long before the power suits and legal briefs, exploring the formative experiences that shaped her signature optimism, razor-sharp intellect and unwavering self-belief. It’s a coming-of-age story with a distinctly glossy edge, one that promises heart, humour and, naturally, impeccable style.

“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” said Reese Witherspoon, who famously originated the role and now serves as executive producer. She describes discovering newcomer Lexi Minetree, who steps into Elle’s unmistakably fabulous shoes, as one of the most gratifying moments of her career.
At its core, the series leans into themes that feel particularly resonant today: kindness as strength, authenticity as power and the quiet confidence of believing in oneself. It’s a narrative thread that bridges generations—speaking to longtime fans of the original films while inviting a new audience into Elle’s world.
Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, calls the series a fresh yet deeply personal portrait of an enduring cultural figure. “Elle captures the heart, confidence and optimism that made her an icon,” he said, adding that the early renewal reflects the studio’s faith in the creative vision and the team behind it.

Created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), who co-showruns alongside Caroline Dries, Elle brings together an accomplished production slate. Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown executive produce, while Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directs the first two episodes.
Leading the cast is Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, joined by June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as her parents, Eva and Wyatt. A dynamic ensemble—including Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney and Zac Looker—rounds out the high school landscape, with familiar faces such as James Van Der Beek appearing in recurring roles.
With its global rollout and a second season already in motion, Elle isn’t merely a nostalgic return. It’s a stylish reintroduction to a character who redefined what it means to be underestimated—and a reminder that long before Harvard, Elle Woods was already a force to be reckoned with.
