Legacy 80: DTAP and the song “Made In Vietnam” celebrate Vietnam’s 80 years of glory

After six years of creating, DTAP is no longer an unfamiliar name in Vpop. The trio are behind hits that swept through social media, from De Mi Noi Cho Ma Nghe to See Tinh. Yet their success prompted a deeper question: what would their music leave behind? Made In Vietnam is the answer. Beyond making hits, they sought to compose a work with the breath of heritage, one that could embody the spirit of Vietnam today.

Made In Vietnam is not a solitary voice. The album gathers 25 voices across generations, from People’s Artist Bach Tuyet (born 1945), an artistic witness of the resistance years, to contemporary icons such as My Tam and Ha Anh Tuan, and even little Winnie (born 2020), a symbol of the future. It is this multi-generational resonance that shapes Made In Vietnam into a “musical heritage” within the atmosphere of Vietnam’s 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

The album unfolds in 16 songs, divided into three chapters that seamlessly narrate the story of a nation: beginning with the vibrant Xin Chao Viet Nam, followed by Chien Binh Tre celebrating resilience, and closing with Con Rong Thuc Giac, a metaphor for awakening ambition. Yet the true strength of the album lies not only in its structure or melodies, but in the artists themselves: from voices born in 1945 such as People’s Artist Bach Tuyet, to those who rose during integration like My Tam and Ha Anh Tuan, and the youngest voices, just stepping into childhood, like Winnie. Rarely do so many generations gather in a single album, creating a “polyphonic Vietnam” that resonates from past to future.

This polyphonic portrait moves listeners not only through its music but through the profound messages each voice carries. For People’s Artist Bach Tuyet, cai luong and her voice, tempered through years of resistance, form a living connection between the generation of 1945 and today’s youth. When she performs Nam Quoc Son Ha alongside rapper Phao, it becomes proof that heritage can be renewed without losing its essence.

For Ha Anh Tuan, the song Nha Toi Co Treo Mot La Co carries the sacred resonance of National Day, turning the red flag with a yellow star into a familiar image in every Vietnamese home. He sings with solemnity, yet with a warmth true to the spirit of a generation of artists who see music as a bridge of gratitude.

For My Tam, Mua Gio Thoi Tren Mai Nha holds a profound sense of empathy. Coming from the storm-swept Central region, she sings with experience and determination, transforming the tale of the windy season into a metaphor for the enduring vitality of the Vietnamese people.

The three voices, one from the resistance generation and two from the generation raised during the renovation years, together weave a shared message: heritage is not static, but a living flow carried forward by the voices of new generations.

For the past 80 years, music has been the language of heritage from heroic marches to everyday melodies that touch the heart. Today, with Made In Vietnam, DTAP and its accompanying artists present a “musical portrait” that honours the past, reflects the present and looks to the future.

The coming together of veteran artists and the younger generation is not only an artistic achievement but also a symbol of a multi-generational journey. Each voice rises like a “flag”, contributing to the vibrant picture of national pride.

The list of artists featured in Made In Vietnam forms a “sound map” across generations. Alongside revered figures such as People’s Artist Bach Tuyet, People’s Artist Thanh Hoa, People’s Artist Thanh Thuy and diva Hong Nhung, the project also gathers leading contemporary names including Phuong Thanh, Hoang Bach, Hien Thuc, Vo Ha Tram, Den Vau, Toc Tien, Isaac, Suboi, Karik, Truc Nhan, and Dong Nhi – Ong Cao Thang.

The succession of young artists, including Orange, Lam Bao Ngoc, Phuong My Chi, Lamoon, Muoi and Phao, has brought freshness, vividly reflecting the vitality of Vietnamese music today. Each with their own voice and musical identity, they form essential pieces of a picture both profound and polyphonic, which DTAP seeks to share with the public.

If in 1945 Tien Quan Ca became the opening song of an independent nation, then in 2025 Made In Vietnam affirms today’s generation: Vietnam is not only a country of heroic history, but also a youthful, creative, proud and courageous nation in an era of integration.

Within the flow of Vietnamese culture, DTAP has shown that music remains a “living heritage” where past, present and future converge in harmony, continuing the story of a powerful and enduring Vietnam.
