Take a look at the best South Korean reality TV the streaming giant has to offer this year

When you go grim about the mouth, try turning on the telly for some spicy reality show from South Korea. This year, Netflix will release at least five new titles which will evoke every emotion humanly possible one episode at a time.

"This year, we’re excited to provide a sneak peek into our growing unscripted slate. The lineup includes a rich variety of themes such as dating, physical endurance, mind games and zombies, and members will be able to enjoy a new unscripted show either monthly or bimonthly," Netflix says.

In this write-up are the shows you can stream this 2023:

1. Singles Inferno 3

The hottest reality show in Korea is coming back with brand-new rules and locations! In Single’s Inferno 3, single people are encouraged to search for love on a deserted island where they can only escape as couples. Audiences from all parts of the globe enjoy the show for its participants' candidness.

"When we received the proposal for Single’s Inferno at the end of 2020, there weren’t many dating programs in Korea. We set out to close the gap locally and ended up winning fans globally. The first season became the first Korean unscripted show to debut on the Global Top 10 Non-English TV list. Following suit this year, Season 2 featured in the Global Top 10 for four weeks, and pulled in even higher viewing hours," says Netflix.

2. Nineteen to Twenty

Nineteen to Twenty (19/20) is a reality entertainment show that tracks the fresh and youthful lives of Generation Z just before they turn 20. During that final week, they attend “19 School” to learn things about adulthood. On the day they turn 20, the participants will be ferried to the “20 House,” a space where they are free from their parents and teachers. 

"Dating and survival reality TV shows are well-loved formats around the world, and we have put our inimitable stamp on them. For a new take on young love, Nineteen to Twenty is a never-before-seen style of a reality show that will evoke romantic memories of your youth," Netflix discloses.

3. Physical: 100

An extreme survival entertainment program designed to find the best physique with the strongest physical capabilities. The vast filming site designed solely for Physical: 100, sets the stage for an intense competition among 100 men and women. The show is currently one of Netflix's most-watched non-English TV shows globally.

4. The Devil’s Plan

Devil’s Plan is an entertaining mind-game survival show. Participants including celebrities, influencers, and "recruits" begin with the devil’s suggestion to take off their "social masks" and reveal their identity. The show is directed by the maestro of mystery and genre entertainment producer Jeong Jong-Yeon.

"We had the opportunity to work with some of Korea’s top unscripted showrunners and creatives. Jeong Jong-yeon, who pioneered Korea’s survival shows based on mind games, is the mastermind behind our upcoming series The Devil’s Plan," shares Netflix.

5. Zombieverse

South Korea has injected a brand new take on zombies with great titles such as Kingdom, Train to Busan, and All of Us Are Dead. This year, the country introduces Zombieverse where participants must complete a series of quests to survive the apocalypse in Seoul. "The art team from All of Us Are Dead and the zombie action choreographer from Kingdom work behind the scenes, adding to the anticipation of how realistically and thrillingly the zombie universe will be portrayed," Netflix discloses.
