The Taiwanese Canadian actress and singer will succeed Canto-pop king Aaron Kwok, who held the position for the last five years
Golden Horse Awards-winning actress Karena Lam Ka-yan has been announced the new ambassador for the 48th edition of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) this year. The festival, themed A Portal to Another World, will take place from March 28 to April 8. Lam will succeed Hong Kong singer and actor Aaron Kwok, who held the position of HKIFF ambassador for the past five years.
“Films have had a significant role in my life since childhood. When HKIFF approached me to become their ambassador, I was thrilled and honoured,” Lam says in a press statement. “I am excited to join the audience in watching films from around the world and share my viewing experiences with them.”

An annual cultural event in the city, HKIFF is the longest-running international film festival in Asia. It also includes the Firebird Awards, which comes in three categories: Young Cinema Competition, Documentary Competition and Short Film Competition.
Besides being the festival’s ambassador, the July Rhapsody actress will also serve as one of the three jury members for the Firebird Awards’ Young Cinema Competition (Chinese Language).
On the acting front, Lam will be next seen in action film Customs Frontline, which is slated for release this year.
