Singapore has once again come alive with vibrant festivities and patriotic fervour. To celebrate Singapore’s 58th birthday on August 9, the island has prepared a lineup of exciting events and festivities that span throughout the month.
From watching the annual National Day Light-Up to having an intimate meal with the family, there’s no shortage of exciting things to do this National Day. Below, we share some of the best things to see and do this month.

1. Catch the fireworks

If you’re keen on watching the stunning fireworks display but didn’t get tickets to the parade, don’t fret as you can still catch the light show from various points in Singapore. Snag a spot at Marina Barrage with the family and watch as the fireworks light up the Singapore skyline.

2. Watch the National Day Light-Up
From now until August 26, six historical landmarks will be illuminated in red and white as part of the annual National Day Light-Up. Various landmarks including the Children’s Museum Singapore, Fort Canning Centre, Maghain Aboth Synagogue, National Museum of Singapore, St Joseph’s Church and The Peranakan Museum will be illuminated in red and white. Stop by these buildings and watch as they come aglow from 7.30pm to midnight.
3. Have an intimate meal with the family at Braci

Celebrate Singapore’s birthday with an intimate meal at Braci. Go for the seven-course degustation experience and dig into tantalising dishes like the rich foie gras glazed in a sweet and tangy fig reduction. Sit at the alfresco dining area and be treated to the stunning firework display too.

4. Celebrate Singapore at the Gardens by the Bay and MediaCorp National Day Concert
Head to the Meadow along Gardens by the Bay on August 5 to catch the National Day Concert. The concert’s fifth edition will feature an array of home-grown stars, performances and firework displays. Take part in pre-event festivities before the concert, such as the carnival complete with bouncy castles, inflatables of Singapore landmarks, photo-worthy spots and more.
5. Catch the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s National Day Concert
Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s National Day Concert has returned for its sixth year. Visit the Esplanade Concert Hall on August 13 and treat your ears to melodious music by various Singaporean composers. Listen up for your favourite songs too, including Where That River Always Flows, Singaporean Folk Medley and Mass Rapid City.
6. Toast to Singapore at Republic Bar

This National Day, this luxurious bar is offering a range of cocktails inspired by Singapore’s vibrant history. The Georgette honours Singapore painter Georgette Chen and sees a medley of Hendrick’s gin, lychee, Rinomato Bianco and hibiscus. While Lion City offers nostalgic flavours of kaya and pandan mixed with pineapple, Cointreau and Bacardi 8-Year-Old rum. For something fruity, the Pop Yeh Yeh is a mix of Brass Lion gin, sour plum, kiwi, apple and citrus.
