Not sure how to have a safe and fun Children's Day with your Tatlings on October 8? Here are some of the best ideas

Children’s Day falls on October 8 this year and while it is going to be a rather different atmosphere considering the rise in Covid-19 cases and the fact that all primary schools are still on home-based learning, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still enjoy the long weekend that some of us may enjoy.

In fact, if you are stumped as to what to do to make Children’s Day special for your Tatlings this year, here are some fun (and safe) ideas that you can explore.

1. Create an at-home picnic

Currently, we can only dine out in groups of two and you must be vaccinated when eating at restaurants. This means that it may potentially be more challenging than usual to enjoy a meal as a family of three and more.

This Children’s Day, why not support our local restaurants, cafes and hawkers by ordering a meal to your home and setting up a cute little picnic right in your living room.

You can also opt to prepare the food at home yourself and allow your kids to help for an extra boost of fun. Order your kitchen necessities online through these grocers here

2. Go on a staycation

We will not be able to travel overseas this weekend but we can always go on a staycation for the whole family.

It’s the perfect way to take a quick break from work (and home-based learning).

This weekend, why not opt for a kid-friendly staycation like Shangri-La Hotel’s ice-cream themed staycation. In fact, from October 1 till November 18, Shangri-La has teamed up with Häagen-Dazs to give guests an unforgettable stay that includes minibars stocked with Häagen-Dazs pints, stick bars and mini cups, a special dessert as well as ice-cream themed goodies.

It’s the perfect option for a fun family getaway.

Book it here.

3. Try out a new craft project

With the abundance of TikTok and YouTube tutorials on the web, there is no shortage of creators who are ready to share everything from kid-friendly origami to creating your own slime and science experiments.

Spend some time around the table trying your hand at creative projects and it will probably keep your Tatlings entertained for hours. That is a win-win!

4. Binge-watch your favourite Netflix shows

If you are staying home with your kids this Children’s Day, take the time to hang out on the couch and watch some of Netflix’s latest releases such as My Little Pony: A New Generation which follows the ponies as they go on an adventure to save the pony world of Equestria after it loses its magic.

If you’re looking for something just a little bit older, why not try Confessions of an Invisible Girl which follows a young girl who is starting over in a new school and trying to build a social life.

You can even set up a cosy home theatre in your living room and make some popcorn to liven up the experience.
