The former president teams up with the rockstar to host the podcast, "Renegades: Born in the USA" to discuss race, fatherhood, marriage and the state of America

After Michelle Obama's The Michelle Obama Podcast debuted in Spotify this past summer, it's now Barack Obama's turn to headline a podcast. The former president is teaming up with rockstar legend, Bruce Springsteen to co-host Renegades: Born in the USA, which will be available exclusively on the audio platform.

The duo will be talking about race, fatherhood, marriage and the state of America with the first two episodes launching on February 22 for both free and premium Spotify users. The first season is set to have eight episodes in total.

The new podcast comes after the Obamas committed themselves to create exclusive podcasts for Spotify when their production company, Higher Ground, signed a deal with the audio platform in 2019. Michelle's podcast was said to be the biggest Spotify Original show in history and topped Spotify's global charts in July and August.

Given the success of Michelle's podcast and the collaboration with Springsteen, Renegades is expected to become the Obama family's big podcast hit. In the trailer for the podcast, Obama said that it may not seem like he and Springsteen have a lot in common. "He’s a white guy, from a small town in Jersey. I’m a Black guy of mixed race, born in Hawaii. He’s a rock’n’roll icon. I’m...not as cool."

But friendship knows no boundaries, as the fair formed a bond after meeting during Obama's 2009 presidential campaign. "What we discovered during these conversations was that we still share a fundamental belief in the American idea. Not as an act of nostalgia, but as a compass for the hard work that lies before us."

You can listen to Renegades: Born in the USA exclusively on Spotify here.
