As the sun sets, the ghouls come out to play—it’s time to face your worst nightmares as the annual scare-fest returns, more frightening than ever

Prepare to scream and thrill your hearts out as Halloween Horror Nights returns for its 11th edition, now bigger than ever.

From September 29 to November 4, the latest scare-fest will see five haunted houses, three scare zones, two live shows and a multi-sensory dining experience. What’s more, organisers have partnered with streaming platform Netflix and Grammy award-winning artist The Weeknd to create two specially curated haunted houses.

The annual fest never fails to draw huge crowds and insanely long queues every year, so it’s best to plan your night in advance. If you prefer to skip the queues, go for the RIP Tour, a guided experience taking you through the various haunted houses and rides. The exclusive experience also includes a private meet and greet with various Halloween Horror Nights 11 characters.

If you dare to proceed, here are some tips on surviving through the night.

Live shows

Two live shows are available this year: Judgement Day and The Hacker: Game Over. The former is the grand opening Scaremony, that kicks off the night. Themed Judgement Day, the performance follows a damned soul who attempts to free himself from his sins while in hell. It’s complete with elaborate costumes, special effects and even someone being lit on fire.

The latter is a continuation of the scare zone, The Hacker. The performance follows a destructive artificial intelligence (AI) invading and corrupting the games of the victims. These gamers race to escape before the AI kills and sells their souls, in a bid to build a body for themselves.

Die-ning in hell

Fill your bellies before venturing into the various haunted houses and scare zones. This year, visitors can look forward to a unique experience, Die-ning in Hell. Inspired by King Yama, the Chinese god of death, you’ll dig into a three-course meal while being entertained with performances by King Yama’s demons. While the menu is kept a secret, it’s inspired by three gruesome tortures: fire, blade and blood. Held at the Hollywood China Arcade, three sessions are available—6 pm, 7:45 pm and 9:20 pm—each lasting 80 minutes. If you’re looking to catch the Scaremony, you may want to opt for the 6 pm session, which gives you enough time to catch the live show.

After catching The Hacker: Game Over live, continue on to Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead haunted house, located next to the show location. Fans of the popular Netflix K-drama series of the same name will not want to miss this. Walk through Hyosan High and fight your way through zombies—some may even chase you down the halls.

If you’ve been a fan of Halloween Horror Nights since day one, you’ll find the next attraction familiar. Inspired by the first and only haunted house in the 2011 edition of Halloween Horror Nights, the Rebirth of the Matriarch is set in a Peranakan funeral parlour, which the titular character’s first-born son lures victims into to perform gruesome rituals and ceremonial rites on. One of the scarier haunted houses this year, as it hits closer to home, the realistic set-up is designed with authentic Peranakan furniture sourced from Malacca.

Other haunted houses include The Weeknd After Hourse Til Dawn Nightmare, inspired by the popular artist’s 2020 album; Descent into Hell where you’ll find yourself going through the different levels of hell; and Grimm Encounters, where demon Pied Piper plagues the fairytale realm.

Seeking even more jump scares? Venture into the other scare zones scattered along the theme park. Wander through The Hacker scare zone and to encounter an army of robot-human mutants and killobyte soldiers.

Then if you dare, walk through The Cursed Kiramam. An Indian village cursed by the Gods, villagers are forced to pay the price of desolation and torment. This year, the village will be sacrificing a bride, in an attempt to evade their doom. As you walk through the village, look out for villagers asking for help, the sacrificed bride and more. Hint: don’t put your guard down, especially in the darkest area of the village as trees may even come alive at night.

The last scare zone, Dead Man’s Wharf brings you to a black market that has been overtaken by real-life historical figure Madame Dragon, the infamous murderous pirate queen. Find her crew around the market, luring you to buy their goods.
