Devastating news for music lovers in Malaysia as the remaining two days of Good Vibes Festival 2023 have been cancelled due to a controversial on-stage stunt by The 1975 which breached Malaysian laws. The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil, expressed strong disapproval of the incident, calling it “very rude”.
Subsequently, he summoned a meeting with the festival organiser, Future Sound Asia, and swiftly ordered the festival's cancellation. The cancellation of Good Vibes Festival 2023, known as a platform for musicians and creatives to showcase their talent, raises concerns about the future of live performances in Malaysia especially from international artists.

Beyond the impact on the music festival itself, one of the most immediate ramifications was the plight of the various food vendors who participated in the event. Many had invested significant money in food preparation for the anticipated crowds. For example, Nazri, the owner of Sausage Sizzle Malaysia, shared that he spent a minimum of RM15,000 on food costs alone, not including booth rental, accommodation, staffing, logistics, and preparation time.
Another vendor, myBurgerLab, also voiced their concerns about the financial strain they now face, alongside other vendors who are grappling with losses due to the festival's cancellation. They called for support from the public and urged people to keep an eye on their social media for any pop-up offers or weekend promotions that could help alleviate the impact.
To recoup sunk costs, some vendors have opted to organise last-minute pop-ups serving up food that would've otherwise been sold at festival grounds. If you've got no lunch or dinner plans tomorrow, it would be great to stop by and help out in any way possible.

Other vendors who are impacted include Beard Brothers BBQ (@beardbrothersbbq), Joshi Josh Catering (@joshijoshcatering) Hijau (@hijaukualalumpur), Nachoslah (@nachoslahofficial), cheezuto Cheese Toast (@cheezuto), Superfine.KL (@superfine.kl), Fifbites (@fifbites), Pizza Mansion (@pizzamansion), Wokit Malaysia (@wokit.my), A Pie Thing ( @apiething), Kickin Prawns (@kickinprawns), Harvest Gourmet (@nestleharvestgourmet), Chez Will.i.am, Yoohoofries, Cheese station and Mor'mantau. Future Sound Asia has issued an apology to ticket holders, vendors, sponsors, and partners affected by the festival's cancellation. While the specific refund mechanism is yet to be announced, the organisers have promised to update everyone as soon as possible.
