With a fiery passion, Dolly de Leon and Jon Jon Briones play two Fire Nation characters in the coming seasons of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’
The much-awaited second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming soon, with two Filipinos joining the cast as part of the Fire Nation. Since its premiere in early 2024, the show has become an instant hit among longtime fans and new watchers for its stunning visuals and seamless choreography—being deemed a respectful homage to the original animated series on Nickelodeon. With the first season covering Book One: Water, we can expect the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender to follow suit with Book Two: Earth, which continues Aang’s journey to mastering all four elements before confronting the Fire Nation in the final season.

Known for her recent roles in Nine Perfect Strangers and Triangle of Sadness, in which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA awards, among others, Dolly De Leon is set to play two characters as Lo and Li—the twin firebending mentors to Princess Azula. While the two played a crucial role in teaching Azula to become the powerhouse she is, they are ironically nonbending characters. “I’m extremely excited and honoured to be part of an iconic live-action version of an animated cult classic. It’s my first time playing twins, which is the best fun in a creative process. It’s a dream come true,” says De Leon.
Fans can expect to see her in Avatar: The Last Airbender’s second season.

Renowned for his portrayal of the Engineer in the West End revival of Miss Saigon in 2014—a role he reprised on Broadway three years later—Jon Jon Briones takes his theatricality to the Fire Nation as Master Piandao. What he lacks in bending, he makes up for in his skill with a blade, as he is regarded as the greatest swordmaster in the world. He is set to appear in Avatar: The Last Airbender’s third and final season, where he trains Sokka.
