Star is known for his romantic roles and now for his contribution in the promotion of the Urdu language

Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan received an honorary doctorate at the sixth convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University during the last week of December 2016. The actor received the honorary from India president Pranab Mukherjee himself.

After receiving the degree, the Bollywood superstar stated that he is very happy to get the doctorate and said that his late father would have been very happy. He added that his late mother would also be proud as he is getting the honour in Hyderabad, his mother’s birthplace. The university conferred the honorary doctorate for the actor's extraordinary contribution in the promotion of Urdu language and culture. Along with Shah Rukh Khan, Urdu aficionado and founder of Rekhta Foundation Rajiv Saraf was also given the honorary doctorate degree for the same contribution.

This is not the first time the 51-year-old actor has received a doctorate degree. Previously, the “King Khan” was felicitated with Doctor Honoris Causa from the University Chancellor HRH The Princess Royal in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, for his contribution to philanthropy, altruism as well as humanitarianism as an actor.

During his speech, the actor shared interesting tidbits about his late parents along with sharing precious life lessons to the graduating students. The actor advised students to follow their passion and interests and avoid regrets later in life, a memorable lesson passed onto him by his late father.
