As National Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto Cabrera marks his 50th anniversary as an artist, Yuchengco Museum opens to the public a digital exhibition of his works highlighting dance movements.

A seamless convergence of art and technology, Yuchengco Museum’s “BenCab in Two Movements” exhibition showcases the celebrated artist’s works that capture dance movements as well as his subjects’ graceful stance, form, and physical expression. The digital and interactive exhibition is in partnership with Samsung Electronics Philippines, providing museum visitors immersive experiences with the artworks.
The exhibition presents BenCab’s 2007 masterpiece, Dance Interpretation, which was an acrylic painting of the Polish dancer Paulina Wycichowska on canvas but made in a mirroring style, thus creating an illusion of a synchronised group movement. BenCab reunites with Wycichowska by exhibiting once again this year his 40 brushstroke sketches of the dancer (2006) as well as a digital version of each with Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
With Smart TV and mobile apps that are readily available around Yuchengco Museum's Samsung Digital Gallery, the visitors are able to involve themselvs in artful and enjoyable experiences like the guestbook and the “Dance With Paulina” motion sensor dance app.

Despite BenCab’s expressive and delicate brushstrokes that appear impressive on print or on canvas, Samsung has managed to present these images perfectly through its SUHD and UHD TVs that delivers an unrivaled viewing experience. With the TV’s ability to analyse the brightness of images to minimise additional power consumption and express ultimate contrast levels, the images produced have much deeper blacks and an elevated brightness 2.5 times brighter than conventional TVs and twice the colour adjustment points making an accurate colour display. Along with the exhibition opening, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 BenCab Limited Edition, which comes with a specially designed box, an art booklet, and a customised hard case.
“This [exhibition] confirms Samsung’s commitment to the promotion of artistic expression and cultural development. By leveraging its strengths in technology, Samsung provides an ecosystem for digital art creation and presentation,” Guibone concluded.
The interactive exhibition “BenCab in Two Movements” will be on view at the Samsung Digital Gallery, Yuchengco Museum from October 1, 2015 to January 16, 2016.
