At the recent Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, renowned Chinese artist Xu Bing, a recipient the MacArthur Foundation "genius" award, showcased his Forest Project. Using art, culture, education and local involvement, Xu facilitates the flow of funds from developed countries to Kenya, earmarked for the planting of new trees.

Xu also conducts drawing and art workshops in primary schools in the Mount Kenya National Park area, and the childrens' works are auctioned off online and channeled back into the fund.

While in Hong Kong, we sat down with Xu and dropped in on one of his workshops to find out more about his project and how he is finding a new meaning for art. Says Xu, "Art doesn't get rooted in material or style. Art doesn't come from life, it comes from living."
