Hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, and more—‘Pulso Pilipinas: Mga Likhang Sayaw’ showcases the diversity of Philippine dance

To educate, enrich, and deepen appreciation of dance as a form of expression, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will bring together nine companies and artists for a two-night festival that showcases the Philippines’ diverse dance heritage. The event, titled Pulso Pilipinas: Mga Likhang Sayaw, explores various dance genres, from folk and indigenous to contemporary and classical ballet. The performances will be held on May 23 and 24 at the Metropolitan Theatre in Manila City.

The programme shines a light on dance and arts in general as a unifying factor in nation-building. For the first day, guests can catch The Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company performing People Under The Sun, followed by the Philippine Dancesport Team showcasing The Matrix. Ballet Philippines will also appear on stage—bringing back Equus from their 2022 performance. Ballet Manila caps the night with a neo-classical ballet titled Dancing to Verdi. A contemporary dance film, Salom, choreographed and performed by Aljana “Cheenee” Alicia Rose Marie Limauco, will also be screened.

Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group performs Padyak on the second day, followed by the Philippine Dancesport Team with The Matrix. The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe enacts Maiba, Taya! While Alice Reyes Dance Philippines stages Bayleng Bicolano. Finally, The Crew brings 24K Magic to the platform.
